Possible Supercharger - Clearwater, BC

Canada’s Tesla Supercharger team has had a clear focus on expanding the network in British Columbia in 2021. A total of seven new stations have opened so far this year, and another six are waiting to be activated in the coming weeks.

The network will be growing further with the addition of a new station coming soon to the District of Clearwater.

The idea of a Supercharger in Clearwater first came from the District’s mayor, Merlin Blackwell. According to council meeting minutes earlier this year the mayor took it upon himself to visit Tesla’s website and apply for Clearwater to host a Supercharger.

It appears as though that effort has paid off. A source familiar with the deal has told Drive Tesla that a 6 or 8 stall Supercharger has now been approved. The source says the location will the parking lot of the Buy Low Foods (365 Murtle Crescent #101), located a stones throw from the Southern Yellowhead Highway (BC Hwy 5).

The proposed location is an ideal spot to connect the Kamloops Supercharger 170km to the south with the new Supercharger station 305km to the north in Jasper. The Jasper Supercharger started construction earlier this summer and is already complete and waiting to be activated.

Since the approval has only recently happened and given the approaching winter weather, it is unlikely the Clearwater Supercharger will open until Q2 2022 or later.

We will likely officially hear about this new station when Tesla provides their quarterly update next month.

Clearwater, BC

Along National Highways: BC-5
Along Provincial Highways (<=8km): None

From: Kamloops, BC - 129.4 km
To: End (YH/BC-16 Tete Jaune Cache, BC) - 215.6 km
Diversion: 0.8 km
From: Merritt, BC - 209.2 km

To: Jasper, AB (BC-5, YH) - 319 km
To: Williams Lake, BC (BC-5, BC-24, BC-97) - 230.3 km

Another BC Supercharger building the connection to the Yellowhead Highway towards Edmonton, AB.
Will make BC-5 more traversible.
Needs another Supercharger to make a good connection to Jasper, AB.

Hot diggity. This is a nice one.

I suppose Canadians may be more familiar with this route, but chiming in as a furriner, the one time we took it, the "Southern Yellowhead", from Jasper to Kamloops, we loved its scenery, high quality of the road - surface, curves and maintenance - and minuscule traffic.
Agreed. Also need one in GP to start opening up the North. Recently did a trip up through Peace River and it was a difficult go with nothing but slow level 2 units.
I could imagine that at some point soon we will see plans for Grande Cache, Grande Prairie, and somewhere like Valleyview or Fox Creek. That would open up a northern loop and also begin the march toward Alaska, which Tesla will want to reach at some point.
Although Valemount is the the more likely location, I think Blue River is the a good spot as a secondary spot between Clear Water and Jasper. The location is also 173 km to McBride.
Agree with your take. Blue River is more likely at a later date to shorten the gaps between chargers. The other unknown is whether Tesla has trouble finding a property owner to host a site in Valemount.

The Tesla CCS-to-Tesla charging adapter is coming.
That would definitely help as there is Petro Canada CCS stations in Blue River and Valemont already.
But Tesla's game is ultimately an energy company.
Latest programming updates show charging for non-Tesla.
Either Superchargers (in North America) will gain an extra cable for CCS or a Tesla-to-CCS adapter.
Given the ease of use of Tesla chargers compared to CCS...
Tesla will want to move in faster, where it can, to gain the energy market share.
At some point, I can see Tesla spinning off the SuperCharger business separate from the auto production.
Filling in the gaps along major highways will gain them the advantage over utilities like BC Hydro or companies like Petro Canada.
LOL.... let's go fill up (electrons) at Petro....
From "The Rocky Mountain Goat" Valemount, BC:

"Tesla Fast Charging Station
Tesla sent a letter to the Village of Valemount seeking to install an Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Station – at no cost to the village. Tesla requested the opportunity to speak with a staff member of the village. Council agreed. See our separate story."
