Potential Impact of VW Diesel Cheating on EV Sales in the U.S. And Europe

This seems very unfair on the poor working classes. The wealthy and professional middle classes probably mostly don't drive old diesels, and those that do can probably not afford easily to simply upgrade to a newer, cleaner car. How will this be dealt with?

As far as I know, only the rich can afford to drive a car or take a taxi/Uber in Paris. Here, the middle class takes the bus, the metro, the RER or ride bikes. It costs 27 € a year to have access to over 18,000 Velibs in the capital. By reducing the number of cars in the streets, the working class' buses could move instead of being block by (rich people cars') traffic. And there would be far less air pollution, both in the buses and on bikes.

& hopefully those buses will be replaced with electric buses ASAP!
