Looks like a new addition, but yes, you appear to be correct. I have an inquiry in to my DS to see what the deal is for cars confirmed but not yet produced. They also axed the aero wheels.
Actually: Power folding, HEATED side mirrors. (Will help parking in my garage @ work) Hello, Santa...
Well they raised the price $250 on the tech package as well--was $3500, now $3750, so they are charging for folding mirrors (which I wish I had!).
Main things is that power folding mirrors are available for the USA. Next year they will be available also for us. This is a good news. Now I hope that ACC, blind spot detection, obstacle and pedestrian detection will be implemented soon on the Model S.
Powered Folding Mirrors added!! MyBuild guy said it should be no problem getting it upgraded (my completion date isn't until the third week of Nov.) and shouldn't delay delivery date. Could be trouble in your MS has started production and is already on the line, but if they haven't started the build you might be able to squeeze it in.
Dont understand the strategy of different config for US and Europe... With the low dollar the earnings per car for Europe is much better than US so give us all stuff!!! ;-)
Yup, but by then, might as well get a new car. Interesting to see this come up given all the "it won't happen"'s and the "not necessary" from some folks.
Talked to someone in customer service (I guess my DS wasn't in yet) who is looking into adding it to mine. They sound a bit frustrated. Maybe they didn't really get much notice on the change? He said it was new to them this morning. Anyway, they're looking into my order and said I should know by the end of the day. I have a November 26th delivery at the factory, so I hope it's not too late. I foresee some parallel parking in the future, and I don't want to lose a mirror to a bike with how wide this thing is.
My car just completed production on Monday and is on its way. My DS tells me that while my car won't have the power mirrors, the best thing to do is to email [email protected] and tell them that you would be interested in a retrofit. That's what i did. I'll report back if and when i get a response.
I can understand the service guys frustration - I worked for a telco manufacturer nearly 30 years ago when the max size of memory chips was changing every couple of months. The engineers wanted to use the new technology but as Service Manager I had to reign them in and remind them it was more work for the service retrofitting and with an ever increasing client base the problem was only going to get worse.
