I prefer OEM when it's mechanical. Also, it get feature via updates. 3rd parties can lose feature after updates.

It wouldn't be beyond for Tesla to offer something, so to say never is wrong. That being said the chances of them doing this I feel would be low, and if so offered would have a high labor cost to it, though we'll just have to wait and see.

It’s highly unlikely will offer an own upgrade to power trunk for us pre 2021 owners.

But wait and see what happens.

I would have wanted this as well but it’s not been a big deal and isn’t worth the cost to me even for a 3rd party option.

This. Not worth it *at all* unless it was free. I hate power lift gates. So slow...

In theory it ought to be a fairly simplistic retrofit. What it needs of course is someone to receive a car and be willing to dismantle it to work out where the connections go etc.

some say the power lift is only one side (one strut), the other side is normal strut.
Unless it is cheaper than 3rd party kit, I wouldn't consider.

It’s only one side, yes, but the trunk isn’t particularly heavy so one would assume Tesla have tested it extensively and decided one powered strut works fine.

I’m more interested in a retrofit as something that - if it goes wrong, or damages something else somehow, e.g. 12V battery - it’ll be covered under warranty etc.

With the refresh now utilizing only one powered strut (on the driver side), I was wondering if anyone has tried this setup using a 3rd party powered struts over an extended period of time? Any issues?

How about a powered frunk? I hate opening it because it means leaving two big hand prints on the hood.

Or at minimum, an automatic latch to do a 'soft' close so you don't have to push it by hand to close it.
