Powertrain requires service

It's certainly not normal. I'd book it in and see if the SC advise you not to use it - I suspect that it is ok otherwise the vehicle would have limited you further.

It could just be a software glitch.

I have just had an on-screen message saying the speed has been limited to 63mph and that I should book a service for the powertrain.

I have a 3 month old Model 3. Any thoughts as to what this is and if it is really driveable?
The only time I have seen someone report a message like that it was to do with a problem with the cooling system. Since the faster you go the higher the battery and drivetrain temps get if the cooling is not working effectively the first thing it does is restrict the speed. So if your cooling is not working optimally + the current hot temperatures that may be the problem. It could be as simple as not enough coolant was put in when it was built or a faulty sensor.
This is all total speculation though.
Agree though. book a service and don't plan any long journeys
