It's too bad Alberta's electric billing system is so backwards. With extremely low "electricity" rates, but extremely high additional charges, and no time of use metering, the only way to economically add a battery is if you can get to 100% off grid. Unfortunately it's the only really affordable way to deploy solar at all here. My calculations show I'd be paid between 1/3 and 1/2 the rate for electricity that I sell back to the grid vs what I buy from the grid, and that's without factoring in all the fixed charges on the bill. The electric system around here is smart. They know how to avoid competing with solar!
