Took my Model X delivery on June 29. The current price is $6010 less than what I paid three weeks ago! Love the car. Not happy with the price fluctuation.
Mine was off by a few thousand more than yours... the same configuration, 10 days after delivery. I am not happy about that either. I love my X and have no regrets around the purchase. I don't feel swindled by Tesla. I have simply added another 10k to my first-year depreciation...it is what it is.
That said, Tesla could manage this better and I believe they only will if folks speak up about it. So I'm doing my part.
First, I think they should sort out a strategy around paint options. When I ordered, black was the base option and white was a multi-coat $2k upgrade. I assumed that must have meant Black was the least expensive paint, the grey and blue colors added metallic and cost $1500 more, white was multi-coat so 2k and red with even more coats of paint at 2.5k. With the new pricing, they have made the multi-coat white the base color and now black and other colors are an upgrade. This makes me think this is all just an upgrade strategy and not based on anything real.
Second, there is no doubt battery technology and technology in general for these cars will become less and less expensive in the near future. There will also be competition so Tesla will have to pass along lower prices. This makes complete sense to me. Tesla could soften this blow for customers who recently purchased with a proactive offer for FSD upgrade, free supercharging, discount on LM, etc. Since most of these things do not amount to hard cost for Tesla this would be sustainable and at the same time increase customer loyalty.
