Probably dumb question about window tint

I've been wondering about getting IR-reflecting tint for the roof and rear window for a bit. The most effective location for that kind of reflective surface would actually be on the outside of the window, not the inside. But I know that's a pretty nonstandard place to apply it.

And after hearing several horror stories about people damaging the rear defroster grid and/or antenna on the back window, that again pushes me to want to put it on the outside of the glass.

Is the tint adhesive just not at all weather resistant?
