Production and Delivery Update for Taiwan

I started this thread to track production and delivery for Taiwan.

For the first batch of Model S orders in Taiwan, I believe we will get the cars late January next year.

I received my VIN at the end of September or beginning or October, not sure which as I never received a email from Tesla. I only found out from going on My Tesla and seeing it changed from order number to VIN around that time.

In any case, my VIN is 1653XX, and I expect it to be in production soon. Has anyone here seen your What's Next change from Production Que to In Production?

I ordered on July 2nd. 1642xx. Still in production queue. Still no word on when we are getting the home charger, which I want soon so that I can install before my apartment committee changes their mind.

60s, deep metallic blue, sunroof, air suspension, autopilot, high amp charging.

When did you hear about the late Jan delivery date?

I do also have a model 3 reservation. RN1075064xx

Late January is what my Owner Advisor quoted me.

I was just playing around on the US Tesla site and build the exact same car as the one I ordered. I was offered a car that matched my design 85% for immediate (14 days) delivery. To my surprise, this car had a higher VIN number than mine.

So I wonder, if our cars have already been built and just not showing on the MY TESLA page. This would be consistent with the fact we were never contacted when a VIN was assigned contrary to orders in the US.

For January delivery, they really need to have the cars loaded and in transit late December. These cars should really have been built or being build as we speak.

Those are "inventory cars" from showroom or loaners. They have already been built for a while so their vin is older. It's too bad we don't have the option to buy those as those have additional discount. My guess is they don't want to bother as such inventories are all over the place geographically.

Tesla now suggests similarly spec’d inventory cars when custom ordering a vehicle online

I think they can build cars pretty fast now. The main uncertainty and source of delay is how fast they can ship the car here and then how long it takes for the government to inspect the car. Those who import themselves takes forever. Now going through tesla officially should be better but then again it's their first time so... I'm pessimistic.

By the way, are you sticking with your sunroof option? The all glass option is tempting but we decide we want to keep the option to open it up.

Just stopped by the tesla store (to see and imagine how the glass roof will look differently). Also spent time with my owner advisor:
  • My car should be in production now (you are right!)
  • The inspection process should be smooth, and once approved, should legally allow for the current AP (pre 2.0)
  • The delivery date is still January because they are still building up support such as delivery team etc
  • Home chargers should be here by end of month or early next month
  • The Taipei service center near Costco will have a supercharger. Another supercharger outside of Taipei is also planned. Many destination chargers are being negotiated right now.
  • The service center will open in phases

I'm sticking with pano roof. I don't think the all glass roof is yet an option for Taiwan.

Meanwhile, enhanced autopilot and self driving are both now available to order for Taiwan. This suggests that they are now legal in Taiwan, or at least they are confident they will be. I expect that by the time our cars are here we will have the option to purchase the upgrades before delivery.

By the way, I see you ordered the high amp charging. Do you expect to drive a lot daily? I looked into that option and it's limited in usefulness. If you park your car overnight in your garage the normal charger should be more than enough to charge your car fully. You might be better off spending that money on the autopilot 2.0 upgrade?

Right it's not on the website yet, but someone else just switched to glass with their advisor. Mine is already in production so I can't switch (nor want to).

Right for the AP we can wait till right before delivery to decide. My owner advisor seems confident about the enhanced passing the legal part, but less sure about the full self driving. Anyway, we can ask again before delivery.

You are right - I struggled a bit on the high amp charging. The main reason is just for the piece of mind given my shorter range with the 60. My guess is there will not be as dense supercharges here, so destination charging will be also important for trips. In those cases, piece of mind and faster charging could help. But agreed it might not turn out that important

Ha yes! I just noticed 10 min ago right before I read your post.

It's kind of weird: the smaller text under next steps says in English "Your Tesla is in production. The delivery process guide will provide additional information about what to expect along the way. If you have questions, please contact your delivery specialist." But the larger one says in Chinese "正在處理您的訂單,即將為您計算預計交車日期。"

I guess they just haven't finished translating. Maybe they are actually on schedule for January delivery!
