Production Quality Issues at Delivery?

I guess I should, but I don't want to give up the car! Maybe I'll try to schedule it for when I'm out of town for the holidays?

If I were you, I'd call and get something scheduled, because the service center is so busy. I was on the service center and my delivery specialist to get my appointment ASAP. I wanted this stuff fixed while I didn't drive my car for four weeks (waiting for the HOV stickers) to work. Obviously, that didn't happen. Now, I finally got an appointment for next week, and I'll have to use the loaner Tesla gives me or another EV in our house.

That's a pet peeve of mine. It just screams low quality and no quality checks. Plus you see it all the time. The Model X seems to be a poster child for misaligned doors.

Were they able to fix yours?

Yeah, my detailer has pointed the numerous fit issues with the MX. It's pretty obvious and awful. He said it's so bad to not even recommend getting the car. I just went back to him last week for him to do some extra stuff for my car. That day, he got a customer's new MXP100D to get the full detailing treatment, and from three car spaces away, I could see the misaligned falcon doors and chrome trim.

No, not yet. My service appointment is in ten days. By the time my car goes in, it'll be almost 8 weeks after delivery.

Got my S60 yesterday. Exterior: paint better than my last BMW. One minor cut line problem not worth bothering with. Gap width typical of an aluminum bodied car.everything works. Interior: upholstery carpets general fit and finish virtually perfect. Steering wheel 1 spline tooth off perfect. Should have been cought before delivery. Again not worth worrying about. On a 100 point scale, I would give it about 2 points less than a German or Lexus. On the other hand, I have seen cars from them worse. Most people would never see what I see. Since my car is as low end as a Tesla gets, and was made during a major line refit and ramp up,I consider the results very good.

I'm glad your situation isn't as awful as others have mentioned. In terms of the paint, I think all cars have issues with swirls, scratches, and holograms. My detailers has done hundreds of Tesla, Ferraris, Porsches, etc. He said even on a Ferrari, the paint has to be "corrected" for detailing purposes.

Are you serious? A Jag? Did you throw a fit about getting an Enterprise rental? I'm wondering if it'll help me get an actual Tesla as a loaner, since my car will be serviced at the main Fremont location. If I'm forced to actually get an ICE rental, I probably won't even drive it to work everyday, because I'd have to fill gas, actually drive an ICE, and it would take me longer to go to work (won't be able to use the express/HOV lane). My dad is off around the time of the service appointment, so I'd just switch and take our Spark EV to work.

I did not create a fuss. I did let them know it was not appreciated in the survey after (that among many other things such that the SC manager called me).

I'm pragmatic about this... they were out of loaners due to the crappy quality control the homebase has created in Fremont and are doing they best they can with "any loaner on the Enterprise lot". They also pay for the gas FWIW.

I know I shouldn't, but knowing my personality, I'd probably be pissed. Oh, I wasn't told by the service rep that Tesla would pay for gas.

That does make the situation better.

I ended up finally dropping my S on Thursday morning at the service center to fix all the mentioned fit and finish issues. I also had some rattling noise in the front of my car, whenever the car would slow down with the regen braking, as well as the lane departure warning was not working all the time. Based on all the issues, Tesla will probably have my car for about week or until the end of next week. The service rep told me Tesla doesn't work on cars on Saturdays, unless the car specifically has a Saturday appointment. That means the weekend is lost in working on my car.

I ended up getting a 2016 Kia Cadenza as my loaner (through Enterprise). The car was ready for me outside after I had finished doing the drive with a technician and signed all the docs. When I first drove in my for my appointment, there was a Chrysler 300 there, but that went to another Tesla owner before me. Although it's not a Tesla, I noticed the Cadenza has two features my S has: a pano sunroof and auto folding mirrors. I thought that was a little amusing.

Yep, I can confirm that Tesla covers not only the rental, but also gas. If I do end up filling up any gas, I just have to keep my receipts to get reimbursed. I don't even have to bring it back with a full tank. It can be empty.

I don't think it is crappy quality control. It is not a coincidence that so many people having problems. I think they don't care about quality, if it causes delays. In order to keep investors happy, and get better quarterly results, they trying to sell as many cars, and trying to fix them later. If owner doesn't notice, good. If owner notices, they can fix it later and keep good quarterly results. This strategy is horrible and in long term I think it will damage Tesla. Especially after Model 3 is released.

I finally got my MS back from the service center yesterday (was there for over a week). The fit and finish issues were fixed. However, the rattling noise that occurs in the front of the car, when the car slows down with regen braking, still occurs. Tesla couldn't figured out why this sound is still occurring. My steering rack was replaced with its realignment being performed, but the sound is still there. Since my MS is still safe to drive, the service rep said I could take it home yesterday. He said service has filed a case with Tesla's engineering team to figure out a solution to this problem. It could take a few weeks before they figure out why this is occurring and my car would go back to fix the issue then. The service center knows it's an inconvenience for me to have to drop off the car and get another loaner again for the second time. Hence, next time, I'll get a valet sent to my house to pick up my car and drop off a loaner to avoid me wasting time again.

Has this issue with the rattling noise happened to anyone else?

I also had a September 30th delivery and have issues with the hood and fender alignment, door alignment, creased dashboard, off centered steering wheel, clear coat flaw on hood and an issue with the car swaying left and right like a gust of wind pushing it. The rear suspension also feels stiff like riding on a skateboard over bumps. My MS has been in service for 2 weeks and I'll have to go back and do a test drive with a new service tech because the first said he couldn't feel the car swaying, or the steering off Center or a rough suspension. The ironic thing is another owner overheard me explaining my issues and he said it's the same issues he has except for the creases dashboard. Anyone else have a swaying issue like there's a gush of wind pushing it?

Just got an email that my car entered production. I hope having a car built during the holiday week doesn't affect quality.

I hope that's true. Cars being produced during a holiday week or quarter end could be a cause of concern.

I'm curious as to what your expected delivery date is for your MS. My sister ordered her MS the day after the announcement of the self-driving hardware in mid-October. Her car entered production during the week of Veteran's Day, but her expected date still isn't until mid-December. I'm surprised it would take so long for her car to be produced, given my car was made in a week after entering production in August.
