Production X Configuration Has Begun!

Things they can tell you they will. Things they can't tell you they won't. You just have to ask the right person for things they can tell you. The only problem I see is we don't know who the right person is.

Well, The NASales team should know...Correct? Your sales team should be kept informed of the various specs/change in specs of your products.

My opinion, and I have been wrong before. The NASales team is not given consistent information from upper management about the product OR the product is undergoing several changes 'on the fly' (ex: seat structure or availability of higher amp onboard charger) that they can't be kept up on the specs.

With all the questions you would think that the PR team would step in and say 'mission control we have a problem' and go about fixing it (or even Investor relations as many stockholders are also reservation holders)

Regardless of who is in charge and who can 'fix it', good communication has not been TM's forte with the X

Tesla does not have a structure that allows lower level employees to have up to date info all the time. It's probably the same for most companies. It's only bad for Tesla because it constantly makes fast decisions where only top level people are involved. It's a smart company I'm sure it will find a way to do better in the future, without interfering with the fast moving corporate culture of course. The worst thing could happen to them is they have to ponder what they should tell people today whenever they make new decisions.

I made a list of questions at I've been piling up as I stare at my Design Studio. Went to the retail store, but they haven't been trained. So I called inside sales. You guys may already know the answers to these questions, but I thought it might be best to over share versus under. Several answers I was given conflict with answers I've read in this thread. Weeeeee. Incomplete information and guessing is not limited to non-Tesla employees apparently ;)

Anyhow, here's my list of questions and answers. Hope it helps someone:

How does production sequencing work? By reservation number or by confirmation date?

In the order of confirmation, by batch/model. Reservation number is just a sequencing into the Design Studio. So, if you want your X, confirm that sh*t ;)

In the 7-seat config, is the middle seat in row two removeable?

No. (Sigh, damn, ugh - why can my wife's minivan do this better??)

There was a console in the second row in some of the reveal pics, but I dont see it on the configurator. Is that standard on 6-seat?

He wasn't sure. Thinks that there will be a console at a later time, like the S, as an extra. Does not think it is available now.

Are heated front seats standard?

Yes.

What part of the seats are cooled when we add the Premium package? Just the butt?

Butt and back. I told him that this was a point of concern and debate online and he went away for a minute and then said he verified it. FWIW. YMMV.

Is there a chance that the Premium package will be split? It is a high price and I dont want everything in there... Not a logical or related grouping of options.

Nope. It comes as a group. He said this is the first time he's heard the request and "will pass it along". I suggested powers-that-be read the forum ;) I expect significant movement based on my inquiry... LOL

Is the warranty the same for MS and MX?

He's "pretty sure". I feel like this was an easy question, odd that there wasn't a more definitive answer.

Does the air filtration system add new maintenance costs? Carbon/charcoal/HEPA

He does not know. Suggested I talk to a service center. I suggested that the service centers probably have less of a clue about the X than inside sales.

I've heard that the batteries settle in after a few months and end up at 95-98% of their capacity. Accurate?

Very little degradation over time. And if anything were to happen to it, it would be covered. Call the service manager.

Asked product specialist at local store and he said that it was probably because the car was getting used to the driving habits of the driver, so the expected miles per charge would naturally decline. He then mentioned the battery rejuvenation service that replaced bad cells. Not sure why that wouldn't be covered by the battery warranty.

Is there a spoiler on any model other than P90D?

Yes. Spoiler is standard. Static on 70 and 90. Active on P90.

Is there a way to get the 90D without the air suspension?

Does not appear to be a way.

What has the maintenance record of the air suspension versus coils been on the S? What is the difference between the two?

Talk to a service center.

What are the decision points between 70D and 90D?

Range and acceleration. Towing. Resale value.

Does the third row simply fold down like a van?

Yep. Folds flat the the floor.

How much storage is behind the third row when the seats are up?

14 cu ft

How much storage is behind the second row with third row folded?

Not sure. Expecting to get more detailed interior measurements soon.

How do kids get in the third row in a seven-seat config?

Move the second row seats forward. Or if kiddos are small enough, they can shoot the gap ;) He made it sound like opening the back doors automatically moved the second row forward some. Hmm.

As battery technology advances, especially with all the brainpower being focused on it right now, how do we take advantage? If a breakthrough happens and in the same space, we can fit a 500 pack, can we swap?

Does not know.

When will retail stores have a Model X for test driving?

Q1 around the US.

If I take a trip to headquarters, can I test drive an X?

Nope, none there either. I'm guessing they'd rather make and sell them to people that don't need a test drive first... The shareholder in me likes. The reservation holder in me doesn't. I'm finding that to be true of a number of things.

Have a great weekend!
Sean

Finished configuration of our Model X last week and got the e-mail this morning that it is about to be confirmed. Woo hoo!

Only difference between my experience and SeanA's above is that I was told that the ventilated seats were only the seat bottom (and I spoke to three different people on three different days). Hopefully SeanA's person knows something mine didn't!

@SeanA

great list and thanks for sharing the results of your research with all here. Although, a far cry from being able to remove the center seat of middle row, you might be happy to discover that you can move and tilt it forward independently of the other seats at least getting it a little out of the way. I am not sure this photo shows the maximum the seat can be moved out of the way, but here it is:

No email (or Design Studio access) for #17138 yet.

I think the high end last week was around 9500...so hopefully we'll start seeing reports of numbers between 9500 and 14000 (or higher) soon. If so, I'm thinking I might get the invite next week.
