Pulled the trigger on an inventory 2019 Standard Range!

I have been driving a 2015 Model S 85 which I got through the CPO program 3 years ago. After searching inventory the previous two weeks, I finally scored a 2019 Multi-Coat Red Standard Range inventory model with 1k miles on it. I ended up getting it for $71,590 which is identical to what I paid for my CPO 3 years ago. I am having them remove the vaporware FSD for 7k was it was listed at $78,590. Red wasn’t my first choice but pickings are slim if I wanted a 2019 SR model and I was afraid I would lose out on ever grabbing one. I’ve never owned a red car before so this will be a first.

I realize I am not getting the latest battery technology with range, but I don’t take a lot of trips and have never had an issue with range on my 85D. It was worth it for me to save 10k and still get a Raven model with AP 3.0 and all of the latest improvements.

Now, a few questions:

1) Unfortunately, the car comes with 21’s which I know can be expensive to repair with damage and wear heavily on the tires. I am considering buying new 19 tires and rims and selling the 21’s. I live in NY, so we get snow, etc. Thoughts?

2)Thinking of getting Xpel Ultimate on the front (does that include bumper and hood?) and possibly Ceramic Pro also. Thoughts?

3) Tesla offered me $37,700 for my 2015 85D with AP which has 40k miles and is in pretty good shape. With the tax trade in savings, that comes out to closer to $39,200. I was expecting a worse trade in offer. The KBB for private was 47k and trade in was 42k. Thoughts on this offer?

4) Anyone have a bad experience buying a showroom/demo unit?

Congratulations on your purchase and you will like the car, seriously. I have a 2019 HW3, FSD, still waiting for the full FSD capability, but enjoy driving it, very comfortable. Sounds like you got a good deal from them.
Mine was a showroom unit no problems other than a software download glitch.

Congrats, mbhforum! We bought the exact same Raven S Standard Range in August for $72,350...same color, wheels, and same 1,002 miles on the odometer, lol.

We had a paint defect on the A-pillar that needed to be repainted. They also replaced a wheel that had curb rash on delivery. Tesla also replaced both front half-shafts last month due to a ticking/chattering sound during moderate acceleration. The car has since been perfect and the electric whine is quieter now after new half-shafts, even quieter than pre-Raven loaners.

I downsized from 21s to 19s and immediately saw a 12% improvement in Wh/m (300 down to 264). I sold the 21s for $2500. The 21s with Contis actually rode quite well, but I didn't like the staggered setup, short tread life, and expense. Based on the amount I drive annually, a set of 21s would cost me 4x as much as 19s...not worth it despite the 21s looking better. The 21s also have very limited tire selection and I wanted a better Grand Touring tire than Goodyear Eagles. Some folks went with 20s from a Model X and that might be a good compromise. The 20s look more balanced on the S (21s looked too big to me while 19s look a tad small).

Do they really manage 285 from the 75 battery now? Tesla's advancements are incredible. I hope they sort out the downgrades before Porsche gets the Taycans out to dealers, I would love to be able to buy a new one.

Same battery, but different front motor (carried over from the Model 3) that helps improve efficiency/range by 10%.

Compared to a 2018 loaner, the pre-Raven feels faster because the induction motors hit harder and you really feel the punch. I timed both cars and the Raven is a tick faster, consistent with published specs, but our Raven doesn't feel faster because the permanent magnet motor delivers the rush more smoothly. The Raven acceleration is more refined compared with the brute force of pre-Raven. That said, I wish our Raven hit as hard as the previous cars because the sensation is fun.

In case you want a separate set of wheels for winter, I have a set of OEM slipstream 19s with Michelin X-ICE 3 in newly perfect condition with plenty of tread left. They were taken off my red S75D when it came off the two year lease and I took delivery on a AWD 3. I’m also in NY. If you are interested PM me and we can work something out.

Yes, it would be nice to have all that headroom and not worry about charging to 100%, but the good news is your car is several hundred pounds light with an actual 75kwh pack.

Congrats on the great purchase! MCU2 alone should be a new user experience. As an MCU1 owner myself I'd like to hear your thoughts transitioning from MCU1 to MCU2.

Also, I thought standart range Model S raven was a softpack 100? Are we 100% sure it is the 350V 75 packs? Only disadvantage those packs have are the lower voltage. (350V peak vs 400 peak) Especially in markets like mine where Tesla doesn't exist in which we rely on ChaDeMo or CCS 3rd party chargers. Even in Supercharging that additional voltage makes a difference. I honestly thought they were soft packs limited to 80kWh which are originally 100. (like to soft pack 60 of 2017-18)

Wish I was wrong but the label doesn't lie. The charging speed hasn't been too bad. I peak at 113-115 kW and might Supercharge 10-15 minutes sooner with a 100 battery, but for a majority of the time (charging at home) I'm not going to notice the difference. Would I rather have the 100 battery, of course! Is it worth an extra $15K...not so much.

Thanks all! I haven’t gotten a delivery date yet but considering the car is located 45 minutes from me, I expect it to be any day now! I have to get my car de-wrapped first on Friday before I trade it in.

I will definitely inspect the car well since it probably was used for test drives.

My inventory specialist confirmed it has HW 3, but who knows?

Already priced out Xpel Ultimate, tints, Ceramic Pro and Chrome Delete!

So it appears that I will be going from an 85kw to 75kw?! Sounds like the improvements almost make this a wash. I’ve never had an issue with current range and the savings in my pocket is worth it to me.

The brand new 75 you'll get will start its life with 71kWh of net energy and will degrade to an average of 66-67kWh. So you'll lose around 10% of battery capacity but will get 20-25% more efficient, so more range.

That's great to know. I am looking forward to the improvements the last 4 years have brought. I am excited for SiriusXM(Bababooey) in the car, so I can stop with the Bluetooth Streaming which was so unreliable for me. Also, looking forward to the upgraded seats, graphite interior trim, smoother and quieter ride, better suspension, better reverse camera, all glass roof (I never used my sunroof anyway), facelifted front end, MCU2 and I am sure other things I am not thinking about!

I have experience buying a demo, 2018 100D with 650 miles (>$26k off original MSRP on window sticker, but listed as an $11k discount based on current pricing since prices had decreased).
Bought sight unseen from dealer in GA and they shipped for free to local dealer in NC.
Then NC dealer did delivery same as a new car, with warranty starting date of delivery.
No issues other than usual disorganization and suboptimal communication, but they delivered to my home on scheduled date.

Also, if you look at my Avatar, my current 85D is pretty flashy too with the tinted windows (illegal in NY) and a very loud blue and I haven’t received a single ticket in 2 years.

Thanks. Just waited for 5 hours for it to be ripped off! It’s Deep Blue Mettalic mixed with Blueberry Autoflex. It didn’t ruin my clear coat when we took it off. Autoflex had some orange peel. Trading it in tomorrow. I had this for a year plus. What I didn’t like about it was, if it got damaged, an entire panel would need to be done over. Same as vinyl but my Autoflex guy was an hour away.
