PW2 sourcing

New member from NH. Installing PV and probably (2) PW2s for night-time and outage PV use. Reached out to Tesla (contact form and chat) a few times but never got a call back from their energy team. As I'm in NH, could be that they don't install here and only go through third-party certified installers. I've reached out to an installer (only 2 around here) who has provided a quote. Is there any reason to go through the Tesla site itself and pay the $99 (which would probably be refunded anyway), or does going through the provider directly include all benefits/warranties/etc?

As long as your third party installer is a tesla certified one, you should be able to get all warranties etc on the product itself.
People tend to install with tesla because its cheaper or more convenient, not because they have better customer service on the install, etc.

No reason to pay the $99 if you cant even get them to call you back for your area. Note, I am in no way anti tesla, and went directly through them for my powerwall install, and with solar city (now tesla) for my solar install in 2015, AND also have a model 3.

I like tesla, but there is nothing wrong with going with a third party installer for powerwall / solar, especially if you dont fit into the "standard" mold that tesla wants to concentrate on.

Thanks jj! The quote is almost $10k over the Tesla PW pricing tool, however there appears to be very limited certified installers where I’m at.

The Tesla PW pricing tool is an estimate made without reviewing your specific implementation, and could change once Tesla determines how your system would be installed.

We used a 3rd party Tesla installer for our solar panels & PowerWalls, and we're satisfied with the research they did in preparing the proposal and the implementation of the system. We have the same Tesla product warranty support that we would have had if we'd gone directly with Tesla.

If you have more than one Tesla-approved 3rd party installer in your area - then gets estimates from more than one installer and if you aren't satisfied, then pay $99 to Tesla and see what they come up with.

Bob - There are only 3 certified installers listed in my area. I had previously reached out to the biggest one for a PV quote, they came out, and never followed up with a quote; just dropped out altogether. Another said they don't install PWs where I'm at. So that leaves the one I got the quote from. Tesla chat said Tesla doesn't install where I'm at but would have an energy rep call me which never happened (after multiple requests). So it seems I'm pretty limited. Thus the original post about whether paying the $99 would get me anything more.

Are Tesla energy people working now? If they are located in Nevada or California it may be a while before they go back to work and you hear from them.

In our area, the solar companies/electricians are working - evidently classified as "essential" businesses.

Same is true for the Tesla Service Center - we've had service done both with mobile and service center.

Jboy - I started trying to get a call back from Tesla in December.

Shadious - I’d be happy with either fee seeing my quote for 2 PW2 + 1 GW is in the mid-20s.

If they dont install where you are, it would likely just get you someone to call you to try to setup something, then a dropped ball

The price he is talking about is just "installation" which is one line item, that does not include the powerwalls (or the mandatory gateway).

Tesla basic installation charge is $2500 (the powerwalls are 6500 each, and the gateway is 1100), then you have tax.

Basic install does not cover panel upgrades, etc. Your third party is going to pay exactly the same thing for the powerwalls as you do (which is 6500 each, and 1100 for the gateway... tesla doesnt discount it for them from what I have been told).

So, your third party is going to charge the appropriate amount of labor to make up for that, as there is a fair amount of labor involved in installing these... and every home is its own deal.
