- To further enhance the driver experience, new Model S customers will now receive free data connectivity and Internet radio for four years. As an added benefit to our existing Model S customers, the free four year period starts on January 1, 2014. To be fair to all, in rare cases a customer may be charged for extreme data use.
- We expect to deliver over 35,000 Model S vehicles in 2014, representing a 55+% increase over 2013. Production is expected to increase from 600 cars/week presently to about 1,000 cars/week by end of the year as we expand our factory capacity and address supplier bottlenecks. Battery cell supply will continue to constrain our production in the first half of the year, but will improve significantly in the second half of 2014.
- We expect to have production design Model X prototypes on the road by end of year and begin volume deliveries to customers in the spring of 2015.
- Very shortly, we will be ready to share more information about the Tesla Gigafactory. This will allow us to achieve a major reduction in the cost of our battery packs and accelerate the pace of battery innovation. Working in partnership with our suppliers, we plan to integrate precursor material, cell, module and pack production into one facility.
- With this facility, we feel highly confident of being able to create a compelling and affordable electric car in approximately three years. This will also allow us to address the solar power industry’s need for a massive volume of stationary battery packs
Conference call:
- Elon says it's a good idea to pull in fresh capital. Will talk more about that next week, and discuss giga factory.
- Stock raise coming next week, Elon just let the cat slip out of the bag.
- Elon Musk says Model X demand is "very high." Not disclosing amount of reservations, but notes the fish are jumping in the boat.
- Sales will pick up quite a bit in Europe as the continent works on charging issues. Deepak notes demand in Asia is really strong. Elon tops off by saying unlikely to meet demand in China this year
- Elon notes it's likely to expect Panasonic to partner on the factory, but others will supply other things. Giga factory talk next week.
- Elon anticipates a positive result from the NHTSA
- Tesla sees demand for the S in 2016, as well as demand for everything else. Musk says tought to see where demand starts to flatten out. He thinks X sees as much demand as the S, but notes he guesses it's possible X demand exceeds S demand.
- Musk says on the giga factory, it would absorb all of the cells produced, and you'd need to bring in all cells from around the world. Analyst trying to see if Apple is a partner
- Elon won't comment on future Model S changes, when asked if power train improvements seen on Model X would come to Model S eventually
