Quality of Black exterior?

Considering paying the $1000 for the Black paint. I’ve always had a thing for black cars, and have had Grey ones in the past, but always kept coming back to Black exterior.

What’s the quality of the Black paint these days? I get that there are some QC issues with painting and panel alignment but it’s more about the actual paint itself. Is the Pearl or Red multi coat thicker or more robust against damage and scratches, or are they or more less all the same?

I’ve heard the white paint makes you more visible which is good for other drivers to see you, but prefer the black regardless.

Hi there. I have a Model Y LR in black. I recommend you avoid it! The paint is so soft that I have a bunch of spots on both rear doors on the bottom corner near the wheel from a couple of drives--slow drives--on dirt roads--smooth dirt roads, not crappy ones.

Apparently the typical overspray blends in better with the white as well.

I have the red multi coat and had no visible defects except for a small miss near a headlight. This was easily corrected with touchup kit. It really looks good!

You may want to do a search to see that many people have issues with mismatched white paint.

Yeah, good point. I did notice it. If it looks awful by the time I order and get it I would just note it in the delivery. Thanks for the reminder.

Not doing a professionally done ceramic or ppf but will do a “home user” grade ceramic, like Griot’s.

Did it myself with Tesla touch up kit...undetectable!

I have black and love it! The only issue I have is during the day when it's hot (over 85 degrees) the fan turns on which causes the battery to go down quicker .
