White, due to limited reflections compared to darker colors also happens to be less affected by an inherent cosmetic design flaw I’ve seen in all Model Ys.

From the angle shown in that last photo, whether inches away or from 30 feet, but hard to see in any static photo, one can observe multiple dings / dents / creases about a palm-sized distance from each other, mainly in the upper half of the front doors, in the reflection from pressure points due to how these doors are stamped together. The cleaner and shinier the car is, the more obvious the defect. It’s also something that cannot be fixed by PDR or polishing the clear coat. Once you see it on the Model Y, you won’t be able to unsee it, and not something I’ve ever seen on other new cars.

My Red MY was picked up a week ago, and seemed quite fine then. Having a mobile visit tomorrow to install Homelink (crazy thats now an option in the TeslaShop) & have the Front Trunk Open issue fixed.
Has anyone had this issue by the driver windshield - a gap under the glass and the rubber gasket pulled away from the side of the car? will point this out the the tech too.

Just back from visiting a friend who has a three week "old" MY. Paint was fine. Some minor issues. Rear seat height issue, a couple of other odds and ends. Beautiful vehicle. Wife informs me we are buying one...

The "bra" line is absolutely not noticeable when looking at the car.

Rear seat issue. Annoying but, in the scheme of things, not a biggie. Still, you'd think the gang over at Tesla would have worked this issue out by now.

What color is that?

When it rains, it pours. After not seeing any Y's here in the Chicago suburbs, and despite working at a popular grocery store where I look out and see the 200+ parking spots all day, I would have expected to spot one by now. I had a day off and did a bank run and a walk afterwards. Ran into 3 Y''s and had a chance to get a good close up look at all of them.

1st was at the bank, a white/black/Gemini that had very little to no gap and panel issues. He's had it for three months. I asked him about the touch up area on his passenger side door if he had that painted or it came touched up. He had never noticed it before I found it. Odd. The rear seats were aligned, the charge port door was almost flush, tail lights and headlight spacings were all very good. The rear hatch had less gap than my perfect Prius. I did notice the rear right lower bottom piece not alighning close the the bottom of the back passenger door. He had not noticed that either. He also has a M3, bought in 2017. He didn't appear to be one who cared about build. The white was good all the way around, at least under cloudy skies.

The second Y was parked and seen on a walk in the downtown area. Also white/Gemini w/ black interior. This was in all respects perfect. No gaps, no paint issues, just perfect.

Then less than 100 feet away from that one was a parked performance Y, blue, white interior with uberturbines. Again, all good except the black window trim didn't match up in a couple places, and the alignment on those was terrible. But the body and rear seats were right.

I didn't talk with the last two owners since they were somewhere else, so for all I know they might have had issues fixed already. Nice to know that the samples I ran into weren't the horror stories I read about here every day.

It really seems to be random - some cars are great (I just noticed one MY White in my neighborhood and it was almost perfect) and some have these gaps and misalignments. My theory is that there are different production lines, some of them are not tuned well. So it is pure luck what car you will get. And it is not color or trim based. Good news - all these problems seems to be cosmetic only.

I am surprised that nobody from Tesla can comment on this in this popular forum - is everybody so scared there? :)

Why would TSLA comment? It's all within spec ;)

I have been at two different Service Centers this past week trying to get my decision figured out. Saw a few mid to late July builds that looked good fit and finish wise. I am fairly picky and would have accepted what I saw. It made me feel better about ordering.

The one Model Y I test drove had the frunk sensor issue and multiple alignment issues but it was a demo for almost 3 months so an earlier build.

Couldn't help but to notice that Tesla took a historic footnote from the 1970's Chevy Vega produced in Lordstown Factory. GM cut the factory QC and had the dealers fix all the quality control issues. LOL Elon you copy cat!

link to where this is discussed in Youtube documentary. go to 8:11 due to this forum not allowing links to specific times in video

I rejected mine today. VIN 37523. White performance. Panels were pretty bad, rear qtr panel was totally sticking out and unclipped. Scratch on hood and 1 rim. Trim/seal near windshield and front corner panel didnt fit on 1 side. Rear blinker cover flapping. Doors all sticking out and misaligned. I didnt accept so wasnt able to see the interior. I looked at others in the lot and mine was by far the worst.

Curious to know the delivery specialists response?

Tesla unfortunately has a Vega General Assembly line shift pumping out rejects. Show up for delivery and you never know what you are going to get and/or reject.
