Quick Cold and Regen Question...

Hey, I had to park my car outside last night, and it got into the high 40's here in FL (yes, it's winter after all). this AM I had the surprise of not feeling the regen at the stop sign. I know there are threads about cold and regen abound but most of them deal with temps below zero F. At what threshold temp does the battery refrain from regen? 2015 MS 70D. Thanks!

I think it starts at around 60° F. Put the energy display on the screen and look for orange dashed lines. If you charge to 100% there will be no regen no matter what the temperature is.

Yes, I did notice the regen lines after I had to brake, and I am aware of the 100% charge regen thing. I usually garage the car, so this was a first cold weather/regen experience from overnight. Thanks for the response.

No specific temp. It's a combination of temp and battery charge

+1 for 60F pack temp, per service tech last week when I complained about the same thing.

It's a recent change. Something to do with a firmware update. Regen used to be available at colder temps.

First world problem but I miss not having to use the brake pedal.

Yesterday it was 9 deg C (48F) and with 57% charge I had no regen. The orange dashed line went practically all the way round to the 0 line.

Yes, freewheeling when expecting regen can be a bit disconcerting. Perhaps a better alert would be appropriate, instead of the yellow no-regen lines that you have to look for.

It's changed, I was at 40 degrees and 30% battery and still getting it. Now it wasn't full loss. It was only about 8 dots. I was getting regen.

Number of dots make a difference.

No dots in a Model S (which is OP's car and the forum this is in).
