Quick question on the front plate

I completed my order with the front plate and then was told I would be ok without it. Since Tesla is so swamped, I am doubtful they will be able to change it before they ship.

Can anyone tell me if I can remove it myself and will it look ok?

Thanks

I believe the front bracket is screwed on to the nose cone and will leave permanent screw holes. Don't know this for a fact since I opted out, but that's what it looks like (I got the bracket separately) and what I've been told.

So if you want to go without you should probably try and get a hold of them with a change order...

Thanks. I am trying to tell them. Easier said then done since they are working hard on deliveries. Is there an official way to make a change order. I feel kind of helpless spending this much on a car that has not shipped and I still might not be able to get this changed.

Do you have your delivery specialist's e-mail or phone number? You could also call Tesla and they can direct you to the correct person. Worst case, you can order a new nosecone to replace it if the holes can't be made to look ok (I was told it would be about $250 but that was just an estimate on their part and not an exact price). Hope you get it changed.

What is the best number and who should I ask for (DS). I have only spoken to a product specialist. Very nice.

You can try calling your product specialist. They normally handle issues pre-delivery I believe. Once have your car the ownership team has a separate number and e-mail address and they take over.

On Tesla's site, they have (888) 518-3752 (toll-free: +1 888 51TESLA) as the number for reservation questions.

Actually, do you have your e-mail with the subject "Your Model S Delivery!"? Mine was from a particular person and it had their personal e-mail and direct phone number. Their title was Delivery Experience Specialist.

I have spoken to my product specialist twice. They received my funds Wednesday. I will try her again.

Great. I actually did the exact same thing you did. I asked them to install it then changed my mind and they hadn't gotten to that point yet. Go ahead and ask them to throw it in the trunk so you have it if you ever need it or change your mind.

Just to make sure I have this correct...Tesla asks at pre-delivery if you want the bracket installed? I finalized a few weeks ago and sent a follow up email to the "ownership" email address letting them know I didn't want it installed, but never heard back. I'm not expecting my car until Feb/Mar, but just wanted to make sure they don't drill holes in it! :)

They ask you at some point if you want it installed with all of your paperwork. I believe it is part of your final paperwork but I could be wrong about that.

Part of the final MVPA is a form that you have to fill out and sign that says whether or not you want the front plate bracket installed. And at least for us the DS and final service center installs it, not the factory. So you should have plenty of time to clarify your intentions. There is also plenty of communication with the DS just prior to delivery. I wouldn't fret too much about it at this point.

Don't have a service center (yet) or a DS here in Hawaii. I asked for it to be installed from the delivery button that shows up in your "Dashboard/My Garage". It is in the form you fill in when you go over your delivery information. I'm waiting to see if it got installed or not.

Well I sent an email and left a message yesterday about trying to stop them from installing the front plate and I just got a call that it was put on a truck for delivery yesterday. So now I have to wait and see what it looks like with holes. Hopefully a new one won't be to expensive.

I filled out the form saying that I wanted the plate holder put on mine, but my plate holder arrived in a bag and wasn't attached. The DS asked if I had a drill to install it, but I decided to hold off.

You place the holder centered with the "T" logo on the nosecone and drill 3 5/16" holes into the plastic. Three push-center expanding body clips are then placed through the plate holder and holes, then you push the center spike through to hold them in place.

Isn't it required in CA? what would happen if you get a ticket and get a fix order ticket? how long would that take if you don't have the front bracket?

+1

I just told Tesla that I wanted it. well not so much that I wanted it, but that as a CA resident I thought I was required to get it. If the cops aren't going to harass me for not having one, I'd certainly prefer to not have a front plate.
