OK, the race is over! It was fantastic, magical, epic, incredible.....
The race was on the normal alpine road of the Klausenpass. This means very narrow roads and very narrow bends and curves together with bumpy roads. 21,5 Km long. The roads were very well cleaned. There were over 200 pre-war race cars: Bentley, Lagonda, Alvis, Bugatti, and even the original Carraciolas Silberpfeil Mercedes which holds the record for the pre war races of 15Min 22 sec. The record for the memorial races was around 14Min 20 sec.
There have been 5 Tesla Roadsters on invitation for the group of the alternative propulsion. There was also an Opel Ampera ( Chevrolet Volt ) and an experimental swiss electric race car. There should have been more Amperas and the Lampo, but they did not make it. A special group were also 2 Audi Quattros from the 80s rallye prepared, one driven by Marcel Faessler, the famous race driver.
There were several known race drivers participating.
The Tesla Team Switzerland hoped to make it in about 18 to 20 Minutes as nobody of us did race before.
We were motivated and nervous.
My best time was about 13Min48sec! So I did beat the record, but 4 other cars have been faster then me.
The two Audi Quattro and two of the Tesla's!
I had reached a maximum speed of 180 Km/h. Mind you, not on a race track, but on an alpine road...
Roland Asch with the Silberpfeil made 200 Km/h....
All 5 Tesla's had the huge problem with overheating the motor. We had no power for the last kilometers....
I will try to post some videos...
