Recently I wanted to hardwire my radar detector to the rearview mirror in my 2017 Tesla Model S . But I could not find any decent pictures or description on how to DIY(Most descriptions were for dashcam which require constant power unlike radar detector). I have no experience with car electronics but was able to do it myself. Decided to post some pics so others can benefit.
Press on both ends(like squeezing) and pull it out. Good luck.Prash, I have a 2015 P85D and would like to try your method with a Uniden R3. I've tried getting the backing off the rear view mirror to access the mirror power, but I can only seem to loosen it. Any hints on how to get it completely off (without breaking it)? Also, has this method help up for you? Thanks.
cool.I just use the ebay mount recommended at post 8 of this thread. I used extra glue on the tape and so far good.@prash , Thanks for your original post. The pictures were immensely helpful, managed to mirrortap from RVM without any trouble.
I have a RVM mounted BlackVue 900S which does not have vented slots like the OEM so I had to drill a hole to pass the RJ-11 cord through to my Uniden R7.
Now all I'm waiting is for Blendmount to fabricate one for Tesla that fits the R7 so I can get rid of the current suction mount
You should check out my blackvue wiring video on youtube@prash , Thanks for your original post. The pictures were immensely helpful, managed to mirrortap from RVM without any trouble.

Hi, wanted to check if the connection is still holding up. Also, how did you determine the ground to connect to? I have a 2017 75D as well and wanted to go the mirror tap route.Recently I wanted to hardwire my radar detector to the rearview mirror in my 2017 Tesla Model S . Still good! I do not exactly remember the ground one. Its been 2 years! I believe its the black wireHi, wanted to check if the connection is still holding up. Also, how did you determine the ground to connect to? I have a 2017 75D as well and wanted to go the mirror tap route.
Thanks for the reply! I have a V1, I assume that yours also requires 12v? Also, my plug is exactly like yours and it seems that it will need the smallest mirror tap adapter to fit in there....Still good! I do not exactly remember the ground one. Its been 2 years! I believe its the black wire
I used the constant 12v source referenced in the picture. My radar detector (passport 9500ix) has a feature to power itself off after 3-4 hours of no movement. If yours has a similar feature it’s the best of both worlds.
