Radar Detector Xmas 2020 nightmare

Hey everyone,
Merry Xmas, Happy New Year and hope everyone is safe and healthy.

I know the radar detector 12v Switched power topic is all over the forums but a lot of them have older dates our Model 3s have been updated both from software and slight hardware changes.

I have a 2020 Model 3 LR and the famous Red Wire sticking out of the driver side VC1 panel. This I thought would make it easy, follow the wire down and tap into it where there is more room.
I also found the line that runs to the 12v power outlet in the center console.

Both both of these are now 12v constant.

I did a number on my back finding that plug under the dash, messed up one of the clips holding up the covers under the steering wheel and got so frustrated I still haven't installed the lead up to the mirror....

Has anyone found a good source for the switched 12v?

How to Hard Wire Install a Radar Detector to the Tesla Model 3 - LivingTesla posted by Kbra has been one of the best write ups I've seen and Ingineerix videos were great also.

Thanks much,

How did you access the lighter socket?
I wasn’t able to access it from passenger side when removing the panel.

many tips please? I don’t want to do a relay for a radar and I think my radar turns off in 4 hours on its own so no worry about battery drain

Iceman23, the thick blue wire in that bundle is the power to the cig lighter. trust me, I researched this for hours only a few months ago for my new Y. I installed it right into the cigar lighter on my model 3 in 2018 and that was a pain and not as good. The link I posted is the way. Works perfectly including with new software.

I wish I saw this post sooner.

however I got it all up and running and my escort auto powers on and off so no need for a switched 12v.

I also very neatly got the blend mount to work and looks great!

Isn't there radar in our cars? Cmon Elon give us radar detectors with a software update!

Yes, they fall under the same concept as FSD. You paid $7,000 for it, and the radar detector function will be 100% operational by the end of the year in 2018. Or end of year 2019. Or end of year 2020. Or coming soon... something like that.

waze doesnt protect you from unmarked vehicles coming towards you, especially on dual lane rural highways.
Very common in australia (but detectors are illegal here)

Agree. It's silly to advocate for less protection against tickets. Waze is good. Radar detector + Waze is better. Radar detector + Waze + Driving aware is best.
