First time poster here. I just wanted to say that I am in Durham. I was originally scheduled to pick up my new Model 3 in Raleigh, but proactively moved it to Charlotte after I found out about the Logistics issues.

I just got off the phone with Charlotte and they confirmed my car is there and that i'm picking it up on Saturday during the noon delivery event! I'm so excited!

If someone happens to be on the lot in Charlotte, i'd love to see a picture of it! It's the Midnight Silver, Long Range, Black Interior, Aero Wheels. VIN 4495X

Here's my story:
Reserved on 06/29/18
Configured/Ordered on 07/11/18
First heard from ISA on 07/23/18, VIN assigned.
On 07/25, Delivery originally scheduled: 08/18/18
On 8/15/18 Rescheduled for 08/23/18 - Car was still in Birmingham
Contacted ISA on 8/20/18 - Car was still in Birmingham, ISA said probably still 2 weeks.
On 8/24/18 - Test drove Model 3 LR in Raleigh. My only comment on the car is, of all the cars that Tesla makes...this one is the slowest...blows my mind. Chatted with sales rep during test drive...he mentioned some of the logistical issues in Raleigh.
On 8/24/18, in the evening - I googled...found pretty much the whole story about raleigh...including this thread. I emailed the sales rep in Raleigh and asked about pickup in Charlotte. He had me e-mail some of their local delivery managers in Raleigh, which I did.
On 8/28/18, I got a call from my ISA saying my car made it to Charlotte and how about I pick it up there? I immediately agreed!

Over the last few days it's been a whirlwind of getting all the right people together to get insurance, financing, etc. in line and ready to go. But I just finished up my paperwork in Raleigh...The bank has sent the check to Tesla...All that's left to do is drive to Charlotte. I'm sure i'll meet a good number of you at the event!

I bet the Saturday event will be huge. I heard they delivered 20 cars last Saturday in Charlotte. Many folks from RTP area went to Charlotte to pick up cars.

Tesla badly needs to revamp its delivery. I am also one of those believing delivery is the bigger bottleneck compared to production right now.

I also understand why Tesla didn't address this earlier. This is such a capital intensive business. Production already requires lots of capital. Distribution and retailing require a lot as well. That's why most other car manufacturers choose the franchise dealership model, which can lessen their capital needs.

NON-owner. Reserved. 3/31/16. Ordered 6/29/18. AWD. MSM. EAP. 18’ Aero. Raleigh delivery. Have VIN. Tentative delivery was for Sept 10.

Found this thread today. So I am realizing now that my delivery will likely be delayed.

Any benefit to offering to switch to charlotte? It appears all the cars are landing at Charlotte first.

So after a flurry of activity over the last 24 hours it appears that I will be taking delivery at Charlotte instead. And instead of 9/10, it will be TOMORROW!...I know i know..should'nt get too excited as there are many a slip between.....

keeping my fingers crossed that all goes ok with the vehicle prep...

@Ozymandius at least they are trying to bribe you with food! The whole Raleigh thing sucks. Someone really dropped the ball.
Last Friday at the ‘delivery’ center I was told they can get 1, max 2 trucks/week with 9 cars/truck. Forgot to ask why they couldn’t get more. They are also limited to ~12 new car parking spots which must make the shuffling of new cars/prepping/deliveries difficult. Still no excuse for extremely poor planning. More importantly, the “storage problem” has existed for over a month with no apparent solution.
How were the deliveries in Charlotte?

Got the car today. About 55 deliveries at Charlotte. Lots of people from Raleigh. Had boxed sandwiches and soft drinks. They had a presentation explaining the features of the car. They checked in folks prior to the presentation. Afterwards they paired folks with delivery specialists. Some had to wait longer than others for reasons not explained. We arrived at 12:15, presentation at around 12:45 lasting about 45 minutes. Then we had to wait for about an hour. We had a trade-in. So that involved extra paperwork. Then we were taken to the car. We did our inspection. The DS was very patient. The car was in excellent condition. Minor blemish around the front wheel which was noted and will be addressed later. We had to go to the back of the center to get our car charged for the trip back home. Took another 20 minutes. By 4:00 we were on the road. The drive was excellent. This is my first EV and boy was it fun to drive it. The Autopilot calibration took about 45 mins and then we enjoyed it on the highway.

Overall a good experience. Perhaps we could have finished 45-60 mins earlier. The only thing that did not work as planned was the phone app. The DS promised that it will work a few hours after he marks the car as delivered. He said he had to wait till we actually drive off with it. Had not heard that before...I just hope he doesnt forget to do so as it is still not showing up in my app. The key cards work well however.

It has been awesome driving it so far....

I too was a part of today's delivery event in Charlotte! I was originally scheduled to be delivered in Raleigh, but we all know what's going on there...

Anyway, things pretty much went off without a hitch. I was one of the ones who Goks said had to wait longer than the others...primarily for two reasons: my car hadn't been fully charged yet and they were doing that...and they hadn't detailed it yet. It was fine. I just grabbed a sandwich and chatted with a couple who was also getting their Midnight Silver Model 3 today.

They were saying today was Tesla's single biggest delivery event since the inception of the company!

They had a nice group presentation going over the car, sandwiches/sodas/chips/cookies while we waited, everyone was excited!

I stopped at the Supercharger in Burlington, on my way back home to Durham, to check it out. Walked over to the Barnes & Noble to get a Starbucks, and another family at the event recognized me along the way and said "Hi!" They picked up their Model X.

Such an amazing car!

Thank you... very informative!!

Hey thanks for the reports back from Charlotte! Glad to hear all of the positive experiences. Did anyone do ACH draft from Charlotte? Or did everyone pay in Raleigh first? Maybe I can get up there next weekend. My car’s been up there going on its fourth week now. Of course, I’m not in a rush. I keep pushing to keep the Raleigh delivery and they keep saying no can do. My ISA actually told me they might not be able to get it to Raleigh until next year! I just hope they don’t give my car away to someone else, in the mean time.

I was told that I could wait to do the ACH until I was in Charlotte, but they couldn't do it at the store... Basically, I could walk outside the store, load up the Tesla website on my phone, and then pay from there.

My understanding is that they can do everything they need to do at Charlotte, except take money. I recommend heading to Charlotte to grab the car. It's a great drive back and will let you put the car through it's paces.

That’s insane! Have you spoken to anyone in raleigh? It doesn’t seem the ISA know much once it gets on site. We have seen a few moved from Charlotte to raleigh in the last week.
I’m still waiting for confirmation as I offered to go to charlotte on 9/8 to pick mine up.....silly as to what reason they couldn’t make that happen. It’s been there 3 weeks almost.
