Raleigh (Non) Delivery Experience

Property owners sold the property as I understand. Unfortunately that can happen with little to no warning.

This can happen. I understood it. But I can't understand why Tesla, a $50 billion+ company, cannot secure another storage lot within a week. Plenty of storage lot in North Raleigh. It is just a matter of the right price and the right term. Tesla shouldn't be cheap to pay a little premium to secure it.

My understanding is the delivery manager was gone before the lot was lost. Tesla then flew in delivery managers from other areas for a week at a time to help out. None of those managers were going to be around long enough to secure a new lot.

And I'm sure you're aware of the crazy growth in Raleigh right now... finding land isn't always easy. There are developers snatching it up left and right. You've got a number of other car dealers in the area as well too, and I'm sure they are just lining up to play nice with Tesla - and aren't buying up/renting lots out from underneath Tesla at all!

It's a giant PITA - but not a problem that's going to be solved in a week. IMO - Tesla's #1 issue was locating the showroom/SC where they did in the first place. It's not an area suiting to running a car dealership - even if it is one that doesn't store un-purchased inventory on site.

Tesla was smart in Charlotte by getting space that was another car dealership

Agree. Tesla's problem is it didn't build a SC infrastructure suitable for its growth. I cannot blame them though. Building dealerships is super capital intensive. That's why other big automakers chose to franchise the dealerships to conserve capital.

Still, it is pity that Tesla pissed so many customers due to infant SCs. The situation will only get worse. Most of our M3 owners will need to service our cars in the future. I bet they don't have the capacity to handle the servicing side either.

@jmmdownhil when did you switch from communicating with your IDA and going through local delivery specialists/manager?
He left a message last Friday saying my 8/21 delivery (2nd appointment) was cancelled. I called and left a message - he returned the call on Monday and that established the contact. i'm still trying to interact with the IDA but he has been out of the office. The new Raleigh delivery mgr. seems intent on cleaning up the mess, but it will probably take some time. Hopefully I can still get the car this week, but not sure yet.

Some services can be done through mobile service, and not at the SC. I also anticipate they are working with national service center brands to figure out how to meet the need for service. You never know. They have a supercharger at a Sheetz here in NC, so We May see more partnerships extending beyond just charging in to service.

The problem is not only real estate infrastructure but also human infrastructure. I bet they won't have enough employees or contractors with enough Tesla EV repair experience to service the cars. The problem is Tesla is cutting back its capital expenditure due to cash constrain. They probably won't have enough money to do big investments soon enough.

Completely random but my favorite part of partnering with Sheetz/wawa is that people are less likely to ICE those spots for extended periods as opposed to shopping malls which is a common location for superchargers.

Any updates on your cars? I emailed my IDA yesterday and today decided to call Mike. Got Ben who said my car is in charlotte and he would talk to Mike about a new date......no word back from either the IDA or Ben/Mike.
Or anyone else that has had their reservation canceled and waiting for delivery
I picked up mine from Charlotte on Aug 18th. My ISA arranged for the delivery.
