So due to pandemic, my job ended at the start of March so I find myself not driving much (maybe once / week). My front trunk stopped opening so Tesla repair guy came over and fixed it. Seems a rat had eaten through a cable which he was able to patch. We found some rat poop in the compartment (under all the nice looking finish). He mentioned that now that some people are driving he's starting to see this and that repairs which are of course not covered by the warranty can be thousands and thousands of dollars.
My car is kept outside using a tesla car cover which is great by the way.
We have an ivy hill which does have a rat or two.
My plan.....
1. I'm adding battery-operated rodent deterrents to the front truck.

2. I sprayed the open area with this stuff that rats are supposed to hate.

3. I'll try to put this under car at night but if it affects our dog at all it won't be used.

4. is no go.
I have security cameras and noticed that sometimes squirrels run under car so #4 is a no go which putting some industrial strength glue traps under car....

SO HERE'S MY BIG QUESTION.....
When the front truck was disassembled, the tesla guy showed me a couple of big holes where no doubt the rats gained access. Most of the bottom of my barely 2 year old model S appears flat and solid. I was wondering if I cover these opening from the bottom with some wire mesh. It would let some although reduced air flow in but will keep out any rat. I can't afford to void my warantee but definitely cannot afford to have rats cause major damage. Thougths on this? Anyone experience something similar?
