re-spray, custom paint - anyone done this

I see a lot of talk of adding PPF, matte effects, chrome delete etc. but I wondered if anyone had just had their car resprayed a custom colour and how much they spent. I got the basic black colour, partly because I didn't want to spend even more money and also because the other colours didn't excite me that much. I spent $7k respraying my other car (60's classic), I wondered if it would make sense painting a model3. Due to the amount of glass, I would think it might even be a little cheaper since there is less actual painted area compared to a standard car.. but maybe I am delusional.

I think respraying would actually hurt your resale value. Original paint is valued and you would be losing that. A wrap probably runs $3-6K depending on your location. The wrap, just like any aftermarket add on, will likely not add value, but will probably protect your paint and be reversible.

I see your in CA so I don’t think this is available but if it was, I would autoflex your car. It’s basically like painting a car, protective like a ppf (autoflex a tad thinner), and can then peel it off. Maintining the original color underneath. Cheaper than doing full xpel as well.
