Real purpose for Smart Summon

I've come to the conclusion that Smart Summon is not a feature that was designed to be useful for the driver/consumer. Its real function is as a teaching tool for the FSD neural net. Remember when we were first learning to drive how we started in a parking lot? Well, Tesla now has thousands of its customers teaching the neural net how to drive in a semi-controlled environment, away from traffic similar to how we all learned to drive.

It's still in beta and good things take time. Judging products with very long-term roadmaps based on how it works today is like saying Einstein is an idiot because he didn't come out with his equations when he was two years old.

The real reason they released it as-is is because they've been selling it as an existing feature of the FSD package for 6 months and they were probably worried they were going to get sued. They had to get something out the door whether it works well or not.

They can obtain training data by comparing the action the car would have taken if given control with the action the driver actually takes. The driver decisions act as a training set for supervised learning. All while NOT giving the car actual control.
