With approximately 750k reservations to-date, even if production comes online in 2021, it may be years until orders are fulfilled.
To me,Elon deciding to go ahead with the semi production tells me there is little demand for all tesla models, not just the Y. This rough patch we are going through can do that. People are willing to wait till things get better. So elon is going to go ahead with building the vehicle that has plenty of reservations on hand from companies who have money to spend at the moment. This will hopefully keep money coming in till things get better.
Doubt it. I think the Semi going to production is just that... it's going into production (after multiple delays and improvements). There's plenty of demand for Tesla vehicles. They literally can't build enough of them fast enough.
That just your opinion about demand. Elon said he would focus on the cybertruck before the semi, then the roadster. Every car company is struggling with US sales. Dont think Tesla hasn't been affected at all by these uncertain times.
We'll find out in about a month when they release Q2 production and delivery numbers. Anecdotally, it seems like there's a lot of Y deliveries taking place, but not sure how much is delayed/pent up demand from pre-COVID.
Regarding breaking ground at new factories comparison - I think it's a closer match to keep an eye on the German factory timeline from ground breaking to first product rolling off the line as opposed to the Chinese factory. I think the delays caused by bureaucratic hurdles are more in lien with that of doing the same in the USA. Who knows, maybe we'll be surprised and the first CT's will be "Uber CT" made in Germany LOL.
