Rear air vents not active unless weight detected

Today I realized that the rear air vents in the Model 3 are not active until weight is detected on the rear seats. It’s an interesting way of distributing airflow that I haven’t seen with the S or X.

There is a button within the A/C UI which allows you to toggle the rear vents even without engaging the weight sensors.

I couldn’t get this to work in my Model 3. The only way to activate the rear vents was to manually enable the option through the touchscreen even with passengers in the rear seats. Am I missing something?

Off topic, but does anyone know the purpose of the blue unused connector behind the rear air vents?
It is taped to the harness that also connects the rear USB ports. This assembly pops off very easily by the way.

Which is probably why neither my delivery specialist, or his manager knew... I'd try it out on my car, but it didn't make it home, sent directly to Service for paint repair:(

Yes, but at what air temp...driver's or passenger's temp setting?

I read somewhere (can’t recall where) that the passenger side matched the passenger side temperature and the driver side vent matched the drivers side temperature. They suggested setting one hot and the other cold to verify, but I haven’t tried that myself.
