If you’re an expert in body work, fantastic. But I genuinely don’t know an Asy-Rail Rr Upr from an M3-Rail Rear Lower

All the parts are available in Google and you can see what is what. But for sure knowing which ones can be disassembled and which ones are damaged is something it would take a professional to assess, or at least a keen eye underneath a car that had been torn down.

There is absolutely no way they are going to give me the money I owe on the car if they total it out. I'm going to be out of thousands of dollars I don't have.

I won't be able to get to work.

I give up.
My wife was driving one of our cars about 6 years ago and was hit in the back which forced her into the car in front which forced them to hit a car. Instead of turning the claim into the other insurance company we turned it into our company and paid the deductible. The car was totaled and we got about 15% above KBB private sale value, and a month later we got our deductible back too!

The other party's insurance company does not have your best interest in mind. But hey didn't you get that indefinite free rental so you can go to work you were talking about earlier?

Cheaper than I expected! Costs coming down. The labor costs for structural work are high relative to most vehicles from what I have heard. I am guessing with adjustments and including rental and storage fees, this will end up well over $20k. We’ll see I guess.

There is no way (I don’t think) that this car will get declared a total loss.

I would look into seeing whether you can drive your car, and if not, why not? If I were you I would much rather drive a wrinkled Performance Model 3 than any rental car, unless the rental is a Tesla - and even then I would want my own car in my possession at all times.

If the car is not actually drivable with this damage, I would be VERY concerned about WHY it can’t be driven (there is nothing in the part list other than the seat belt that would suggest there is any reason it cannot be driven). That unknown potentially has much worse long term implications. My feeling is that it is probably nothing, and just a software reset that needs to be done perhaps, but if it is worse than that, if I were you, I would be finding out why. And if it can be easily reset, I would demand they do that and be driving my car out of storage that same day. It minimizes the risk of other damage occurring to the vehicle while in storage, and eliminates a lot of stress of the unknown. It is also the most efficient from a cost perspective.

Keep in mind the longer the car sits the higher the storage fees get.

Always Be Driving (Your Own Car)!

The body shop has been trying to contact Tesla Westmont to get the car re-started or something, but they aren't returning any calls or anything.

None of the Service Centers in Chicago actually pick up their phones. Try to contact Tesla Grand Avenue by phone. I will give you a million dollars if you are successful.

If I were you I would go to the service center in person and nicely discuss with them in person how to proceed. They should be able to put you in touch with the mothership. Perhaps others here can suggest the best phone numbers to call, but I would think an in-person visit (without your car) would be the best option.

Don’t leave this up to the body shop - they have a large DISINCENTIVE to get the issue resolved, as they take in massive guaranteed storage fees for every day the car is on their lot gathering dust and paint overspray and bird poop.

You could also call Roadside Assistance and say your car says it can’t drive “for some reason” and see if they can look into why. :). Maybe they can reset it...I could envision that they might have had to do such a reset remotely in the past - if indeed there is no hardware reason for the car to be inoperable (an assumption at this point). You might want to make such a call while you are at the shop which has the car...so you can say you are at the car.

In any case, I think it is important to stick up for yourself here and push on some people. I honestly think the best thing right now is to get that car back in your possession - it looks perfectly fine to me - so until you find out otherwise I would pursue that hope.

Don’t worry about the repairs! That’s the easy part! You don’t have to worry about how long parts take to arrive, if you can drive your car!

Garland I really am sorry about your situation. I am getting my car back Friday. Out for a month and a half. Pretty fast compared to others horror stories. They also had to reach out to Westmont to get codes cleared. Sat there for 2 days before they could look at it. Just got back today to the body shop. Keep trying. Westmont is crazy packed just like every other service center out there.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Yes, I plan to go over to Westmont tomorrow and......well.....I don't know what I'm going to do right now.

I'm totally drained and frustrated right now.

Good luck to you. I get the feeling you would be slightly happier with your car back. It’s not ideal, but it might be better...too many unknowns right now to know for sure, but chances are it would be better overall.

Just edited and added above to my prior post, just in case you didn’t see it:

Is this an adjuster estimate, or the shop estimate?

If it is from the adjuster, it will only go up from here. $85/hr is a pretty low amount for labor on a Tesla - it is possible at some approved shops but in general seems to be higher?

I would not sign a contract with the repair shop for a full tear down and final estimate until you are sure you want to proceed. Also after a tear down it is a bit harder to drive the vehicle... And do be sure the insured’s insurance will pay the shop’s rates.

If the seat belt works and behaves normally, the explosive pre-tensioner probably did not deploy.

Now the insurance company of Guilty is saying that they have to valuate my car and that will affect stuff.

No one is explaining what that means to me.

I can't do this anymore.
This is exactly why I’m going through my insurance and not dealing with the guilty party’s. I’m still driving mine around though with a mangled bumper and rear quarter panel. I don’t need the rental car. Btw-2.5 weeks since the parts were ordered and I’m still waiting on a few apparently. I’ll let you know when they show up for reference.

My repair shop tore mine down while I waited so they and the on site Geico adjuster could see everything and not miss any parts. They put it back together and let me drive it. Once the parts show up, I take it back for 15 days of repairs.

Just remember that there are a lot of worse things that can happen to you than getting your car damaged. Keep things in perspective and do something that makes you happy. It will eventually get fixed, and this will become a distant memory.

Now with all of that, for some reason, my estimate comes in slightly lower than Garlan's? I don't get it?

They have everything done except those two Termix clips for the airbags (which didn't go off in accident). The shop has all the programming done (had to change my password for them to use while being repaired). I've had no reason/need to call the local Tesla Service Center (Westmont). I've just been (for the most part) going with what they tell me, and only bugging Tesla Body Shop support email when no promised updates are given or they have fallen behind promised ETA.

I get it. Super frustrating waiting, but not much else I can do about it. End of next week is at least a light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm kind of wondering about this shop yours is at? My shop just needed my remote access password when they first got it to avoid me starting it up while they are working on it. I set it with a temp password for now. I'll change it back once I get it back. I've never had to call Tesla or fight any of that with the Service Centers. I only have been following up with Tesla Body Shop support on ETAs of parts promised by certain dates. Only reason for my increased activity was a lack of response from the changeover of person on my ticket.

Add to it the rather extreme costs on the estimate for just rear end damage. I should show you pics from my damage that came in at around the same cost. You'd be shocked.

It is an adjuster estimate.
