Rear View Camera - atleast 5 sec delay in coming on (always black initially)

I took delivery in December and it has happened intermittently every since. Doing a search I find similar M3 complaints going back to Q1 2018...but no-resolution....

I had this happen to mine as well. Tesla is aware of the issue. It got better with the last update but still present. My S never did it.

Mine started showing delay yesterday.
It's been over a week since the software update to 8.5 and the symptom just started.
Weird.. I love the quirkiness of the software oriented Tesla!

Tesla has confirmed to me that this is a software issue that is affecting a large number of cars and it is being worked on now. There is no timeline on the next release.

I am wondering if it is latent as they expressed to me that *.5 was sent out to fix the issues in *.3 which there were many apparently. I wonder if it was missed or not known.

It's a well known issue with the 8.x software at the moment.... along with graphical issues and black screen reboots.. Hang tight for an update!

Confirming that I’m on 8.5 since day of purchase (a month ago) and rear view camera blackout started happening last week and getting worse. Not sure how a software issue can “get worse” overtime. I thought that’s reserved for physically deteriorating components. Hoping that it gets fixed eventually by Tesla.

Since a reboot typically temporarily fixes the issue, I hope we (or they) don't confuse the reboot after a software upgrade with an actual fix...

Since my car is rebooting on it's own randomly and it doesn't seem to help mine too much I don't think they will.

I'm on 8.5, and the reverse camera issue has been noticeable. It's usually on within a few seconds, but by then I'm already backed out of my parking space. Learning to trust the camera took a bit of time, but now I'm too used to it to go back to the old way of actually turning and looking for myself.

This was never an issue in my 1971 Plymouth Valiant 4 door, that car had the aerodynamics and general shape of a large shoe box stacked on top of an even bigger shoe box, but it did have a lot of glass space and pretty good visibility in all directions. Some things, the old cars did better.

I have this issue as well (sometimes upwards of 30 seconds before it activates). I mentioned it while I was in for service, and they said it was a known firmware issue and that supposedly a fix is coming in the upcoming .12 or .16 firmware.
