My rear view mirror always looks like it's dirty even though its been cleaned time and again. I looks like discolorations in the film behind the glass/plastic. I simply cannot get a good picture to save my butt .... But I was curious if anyone else has noticed this?
Didn't have that -- but show it to service... My car was delivered with a small chip in the top edge of the interior rear-view mirror. It was hard to see unless light hit it at the right angle. I mentioned it to service and they replace the mirror when I took it in for some other items...
If you are cleaning your mirror using a microfiber cloth, make sure what you are seeing isn't little micro fibers sticking to the glass. I had this all over my front windshield when I cleaned it the other day, they almost looked like little scratches!
I haven't figured out how to get those micro fibers off of my windshield yet...it's annoying as hell!! any ideas?
Ever tried using newspaper instead of paper towels or micro fiber? A friend told me about this recently, works better on windows than anything else I've tried.
Yes. I use a waffle weave microfiber cloth. The fibers are parallel to the cloth surface (they don’t stick up). I bought the Chemical Guys Blue 18" x 30" Glass and Window Waffle Weave Streak-Free Towel from Amazon.
Like I said ... the picture doesnt show the story ... it appears inside the mirror (if that makes sense). I am due for my annual ... I will have them take a look.
newspaper? seriously? That's a new one...never heard of that. I would think that would make the windows dirty by transferring the print ink. a quick google search: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/gen06/gen06168.htm http://www.curbly.com/users/mollymc/posts/13548-the-does-it-work-challenge-cleaning-windows-mirrors-with-newspaper http://housekeeping.about.com/od/ideasbysurface/f/newspapers.htm
I had to do community service many, many years ago as a teenager (don't ask). The director of the local YMCA, where I was tasked to clean windows, showed me the miracle that is newsprint for cleaning windows. It's actually quite amazing.
I have something like this, too. It looks like it's on the back side of the glass. Can't take a picture right now, because my car is in the shop.
Dry microfiber towels leave fibers on a glass. Spray water on your microfiber towel to make it damp (spray both sides and "wring" the towel to spread the moisture). Then lightly spray the glass. I do not use "Windex" or any other enhanced water product. Wipe the spray on the glass with the damp microfiber towel. There should be no fibers, and the haze of water should evaporate in seconds leaving no streaks and no dirt. We are talking inside front window, in case that is not clear. On a small surface like a rear view mirror, just the damp towel should work.
Steve - I had that exact problem. It's behind the glass. Took the SC all of 5 mins to swap out the mirror. They had it in stock. I think there was some sort of residue left behind the glass during manufacturing. So far, you are the only other person I know of with the issue. Get the SC to replace it!
I think it's when you send a news webpage to the printer, from your computer. Just guessing - can someone else clarify this "newspaper" thing they refer to??
I have the same problem. Will have it replaced when it gets worse or when I am in for another service.
Same problem with mine -- I thought I was just seeing things, but I totally see my mirror in your picture. My annual will happen as soon as they open the new Sunnyvale SC (the Fremont one can't see me for 6 weeks).
