Rear window replacement...

Hi everyone,

My car is in service at the Oakville Tesla Center. I am getting the rear glass window replacement done and a few
other minor adjustments. I have a small stress crack in the glass. I waited 2 months for the glass to come in.Tesla called me today to notify me that the rear glass window and all other model 3 rear glass replacement
windows do not come with the Red Coating which comes on when the rain hits the window.

Can anyone else confirm this? Not happy about it.

Current model 3s don’t have the orange tint for the rear window. The change was made in Jul I believe and when a part needs to be ordered, they can only order current part.

I have a stress crack on my rear window as well 56xxx vin. Appointment on Monday for SC to look at it.

@spurs10 I heard that the lack of red tint was a sign of a manufacturing defect that did not include the UV coating. Can anyone confirm?

Everything I have seen is that it was a supplier/part change, and is intentional. They removed the IR coating and replaced it with something internal that doesn't cause the red/orange coloration when wet.

I have a small stress crack on my rear window as well. It is only two cm long and showing that it may have started below the lower black covering. Looks like it has broken one of the heating elements already.

New glass has UV coating but just doesn’t show the red tint
Does Tesla cover the cost of replacement?

Getting my rear window replaced next week. I noticed some distortion with the rear heat on so took a few FLIR images. Looks like the other elements close to the broken one are getting to much current now. Sixty degrees is burning hot to the touch.
