Rearview camera upgrade?

I am sure I am just missing the search terms somehow.
With the shorter days I am becoming aware that the rearview camera on my 2014 P85 is not great in the dark. I have cleaned it and rain treated it since water drips tend to obscure it.

I have turned up info that the camera changed. Can the newer one be used? Is it better?
Is mine failing hence the poor night performance?

The new one can be used. You can check out the comparison in this thread Comparing four different front camera setups. I tested the amazon version on mine didn't see any improvement. Keeping it for front camera set up once the switches get produced.

Thank you, I knew the info had to be out there.
Wandering through the web of other threads I found links to in these is going to cause me spend a lot more time reading, no engine mods to do on this car but still plenty of tinkering.
