Our remanufactured battery packs use only genuine Tesla parts and are based on the factory original 5.2 kWh / Type 85 and 5.6 kWh / Type 90 battery modules developed by Tesla. Installation, mounting, firmware and software updates, supercharging support, etc. are identical to the factory battery pack - the only difference between the RC+ series and a factory original is the configuration and capacity.

Certified and Tested

In addition to the over 50,000 miles of road testing that the went into the RC+ series during development, each of our remanufactured battery packs goes through a rigorous inspection, certification and testing process, equivalent to over 2,000 miles of real-world load. Failure-prone components such as the main fuse and high voltage contactors are replaced with Ludicrous-class components, and control boards and voltage sensors that don’t meet manufacturer spec are replaced as needed.

What's Covered?
The entire pack is covered for up to 4 years or 50,000 miles. In the event of a battery pack failure, a full battery pack or hardware replacement will be provided at the nearest Recell-certified Service Center.

I have a 60, so the RC 210+ would be $6400, right? Would I be able to pay an extra $2800 and get the RC 240+?

Unfortunately, because of the limited aftermarket for existing 60 kWh packs, and the fact that we don’t swap or replace modules in any of our battery packs, there's little we can do right now on the remanufacturing front for the 60's. :confused:

We do however offer full 1-to-1 replacements (subject to availability), and of course we’ll continue to work on developing a solution for the 60's - as well as the 70s and 75s as they come off warranty. Our mission from the start has been to offer affordable solutions for all our customers to keep these cars on the road, the 60's included. We'll keep y’all posted as soon as we have something. 👍

How do your remanufactured packs address the water ingress vulnerabilities of the early (2012-2014) OEM packs?

Packs that arrive for processing are fully inspected, in particular the side rails and side vents - and of course the main fuse compartment is inspected, as that's pretty much Step 1 in the processing cycle. We also review data onboard the pack itself for any signs of moisture build-up - the pack itself can measure moisture content in grams. If there are any signs of water ingress, vent failure or excess moisture content the pack is fully decommissioned, and the modules inspected and tested prior to putting them into the queue for potential secondary use. (of course, any compromised modules are redirected to one of our partners so that they can be safely recycled.)

We should add that while not zero -- we have our share of rain here along the Gulf side ;) as well as just plain sloppy fuse replacements back at the SC 😖 -- water ingress has not proven to be a major issue for the packs that we process. Again, not zero, but as this point, 8-10 years in, cell/module failure is going to be the main source of pack failure. by far.

Re-sharing some (great) questions that have come up elsewhere.

How Do You Repair A Battery Pack? Do You Just Swap Out the Defective Battery Module, Close It Back Up And Call It Done?

Nope. Not ever. Unlike repair shops, we do not swap out or replace individual battery modules. In fact, we don't 'repair' battery packs, we produce certified remanufactured battery packs. And all our remanufactured battery packs use conjoined battery modules - that means the battery modules in our packs have always spent their lives together, sitting side-by-side and untouched, in the same battery case that they left the factory in - there's no snipping wires, no module swapping, no nip-and-tuck, not ever.

If You Replace My Battery, What Are You Replacing It With?

We only install fully tested and certified battery packs, and we use only genuine Tesla parts in all our remanufactured battery packs. All our packs are based on the original 5.2 kWh / Type 85 and 5.6 kWh / Type 90 battery modules developed by Tesla. And unlike a repair shop, we do not swap out or replace individual battery modules. All our remanufactured battery packs use conjoined battery modules (see above). There's no snipping wires, no module swapping, no nip-and-tuck, not ever.


Do You Use Salvage Cars for Battery Packs Replacements?

No, we generally avoid salvage cars that may have been in an accident or written off by an insurance company. It's not a judgment of salvage packs, most salvage packs are perfectly fine, it's just not where we source them from. Instead, our remanufactured battery packs come with clean title and use conjoined battery modules (see above). The only time we offer salvage packs to our customers is if they need a specific battery configuration that is either out of circulation - such as the older 60 kWh battery packs - or not yet available out-of-warranty - such as newer 70, 75, 90 or 100 kWh battery packs. But again that's not very common, and it's not a source for our remanufactured packs.

even if you have free supercharging will this stay? wont tesla know its a diff battery? and can all these work in a d60(updated to d75?)

free supercharging is not impacted. provided supercharging is enabled when it comes in, we verify that supercharging works on every vehicle we deliver - in fact, we provide each of our customers with a frame-able photo of their Model S being topped up at the local supercharging station prior to delivery. 😀👍

Will the RC+ Battery Packs Work with Either MCU1 or MCU2 Cars?

Yes, all our battery packs are MCU1 and MCU2 compatible – there’s no impact with either.


Does the Price Include Installation?

Yes, installation is included in the price.


How Much Will It Cost to Transport My Car?

Shipping will depend on your location of course, but typically it costs about $300-$500 to ship your car, up to a maximum of $995. But don't let potential transport costs scare you - even when you factor in transportation costs, a remanufactured battery pack from Recell will save you 60% or more than a replacement from Tesla. In fact, we'll cover any shipping cost above $995 - that's our guarantee! And better yet, if you arrange your shipping through us, there's no money up front, we’ll cover the initial cost of transportation and simply include it as part of your final invoice.

Maybe I'm confused. What do you do to the packs to certify them remanufactured? I still think about the way an ICE engine is remanufactured. Replace worn out and bad components in the engine with new parts. If you get a bad pack with dead cells do you replace all the modules and just reuse the case with all new cells/modules

They have already given you those answers. Especially once you take into consideration that Tesla doesn't sell modules. So there are no new cells/modules being used. (I could be wrong on that but I doubt it.)

precisely @MP3Mike. while the remanufacturing concept @ThomasD describes is largely the same. For example, if an engine ECU fails, or say the diodes on an alternator fail, replacing a component or two, alongside some cleanup and preventive maintenance, gets things back in operation.

Same thing with a BMS (Battery Management System) board, a BMB (Battery Module Board) or a voltage sensor, you can simply replace them. Where a battery pack differs however, is that unlike a defective piston ring that that *must* be replaced in order to get the engine running again, the bricks in a battery pack don't necessarily need be replaced. In fact, Telsa is already doing this - omitting entire modules from their own reman packs.

Capacity and power output will be impacted at the margin of course, but these packs already deliver exceptional levels of power and capacity. Thus, depending on the use case (for example, commuter/daily-driver vs. longer range road warrior) there's more than enough room at the margin to make those trade-offs, on a pack-by-pack basis.

From day one our goal has been to offer an affordable replacement battery, and many of our customers are the second and third owner of their Model S, and most have just recently made the move to an EV for the first time. So a battery pack option like the RC 210+ that allows new EV owners to avoid being upside down only 12 months in on a $35K car loan is pretty much a like glass of water in the desert for them.

Of course, if you want more power, or more range? Hey, no problem, we've have those too! ;)
