More than 1 million electric vehicles were sold worldwide in 2017. The study authors estimate that those cars alone will ultimately result in 250,000 tons of discarded battery packs.
“The idea of ‘design for recycle’ is something that battery manufacturers should have in their heads,” Gaines says. “That kind of thinking needs to go into product manufacturing general.”

Tesla has already laid out the plan for used batteries. They are intended to retire into power walls or energy banks after they're no longer useful in cars, and after that the constituents can be reclaimed. I haven't heard anything from other manufacturers.

Of course, it could all just be lip service.

@voyager can't expect a european to track a US company - so you should find informative - have fun.

I suspect that from the very beginning - all founders and early employees of Tesla Motors - were thinking of recycling batteries.
(even lead acid batteries are recycled for decades, right?)

side note: Lead Acid batteries are toxic. Lead is not good for you - lead poisoning.
Lithium is just a salt and is an essential for all animals? Seems Li is in all animal feed.
Given as a treatment for some people.

Anyway, nothing toxic. BUT only makes sense to recycle - too valuable to just throw away.
