I looked really hard to find any flaws in the Red/White/20's Model Y LR AWD we took delivery today, but I couldn't find any.

The red paint is a million times better than the red paint on my 2020 M3. It's very evenly colored, no thick areas, and a perfect color match will both bumpers. The interior was perfect. Even the headliner was perfectly clean. Wheels were blemish free. The panel gaps and alignment were great. The seats folded perfectly, and the trunk moved perfectly.

Very impressive, and a very pleasant surprise.

I'll be doing a wheel alignment in the morning because I don't trust Tesla to do those right at the factory.

I’m normally not a fan of black wheels, but those Induction wheels with that red paint is just a perfect combo. Congrats on the beautiful ride!

Excellent news. I agree about getting a FE alignment done. In my experience, factory alignments in every make are hit and miss, and should be checked by the dealership as part of "dealer prep." Sadly, it's not always checked.

So where do you take them to get checked?

I now DIY my alignments after so many bad experiences, even with alignment specialists, nevermind Tesla.

I use a very accurate laser toe measurement tool called TrackAce, and a very accurate camber/caster gauge from Tenhulzen.

So I will be doing the alignment with those tools of our new Model Y tomorrow, and also checking the torque on the suspension bolts.

I always allow the selling dealership to make an initial alignment, insisting that it be at their cost (within the first 1k miles of purchase). I've had good luck with that, only having to visit and indy FE shop a couple of times in 45 years of car ownership.

For the Tesla, I'll take it to my closest Discount Tire, where I've had good service since relocating to Fort Worth 6 years ago.

It’s nice to see a post about a truly “flawless” delivery. Usually these posts go something like...

“Picked up my MY and it was flawless. Except for some paint blemishes, smudge marks, a misaligned interior panel, and other minor issues that can be corrected with a visit to the service center, glad I was lucky to get a perfect car!”

Great looking Y! Glad you had a flawless delivery!

I'm curious why you don't trust Tesla to do a proper alignment. This is the first I've heard of their alignments being questionable. I know a subset of Ys were missing a control arm nut, oops!

If it's known that their alignments aren't great, I'd like to know. Just had my winter setup mounted, wondering if it's worth scheduling an alignment check with my local race shop. I've got a local place that's done my 911 and lifted 4runner, with excellent results. Again, just curious. My Y is tracking straight...

Lots of posts of alignments being off from the factory on this forum if you look for them. And lots of talk about ridiculously low mileage before tires wore out, which is an alignment issue. And many posts on the steering wheel being off to one side. My Model 3 steering wheel was way off when I got it, and Tesla did an alignment for free, but they did a bad job when I had it rechecked at a specialist shop.

My logic is if Tesla gets alignments really off for things you see like panels, doors, windows, seats, how can we expect them to take the time to do wheel alignments correctly? If the alignment is off, you will have reduced range, more tire noise, and shorter tire life, so there's a lot to gain if you have a bad alignment. But you won't know it's bad unless you have it checked, or wait for your expensive tires to be worn out early.

NEVER trust factory alignments. Out in the field, it all depends on the competency of the tech that Tesla has hired to do the follow-up alignment. (I've not checked, but trusting/hoping they have state-of-the-art FE equipment????)

As with ALL of the observations/complaints in this entire club, we're limited to the competency of the SC that is near us, just as in most service industries.
