Red - paint quality issues

Same thing here, but at 9:30 pm. (Note: scheduled delivery time was 3:45 pm.) As I related back in post #43, the next morning I drove it over to the detail shop and had them carefully look it over. They noticed a few things that I never would have seen. It is pretty much all taken care of now, and I'm very happy with the car.

@wws,

What did they notice and what did you have done to rectify those issues?

Are you in N.CA as well? I just don't want to trade out a few factory paint defects for attempted repair defects...

@ceekz,

This is my concern. I am having afew parts replaced that were scratched upon delivery. i.e. aluminum trim, drivers side window etc. However, I’m coming to the conclusion that I’m just going to live with the small paint issues as I don’t want a repaint on several panels and take the chance of mismatch, too thick repaint, burned clear coat, or other worse damage in lieu of afew paint issues that are almost not noticeable overall. Worse thing is a fisheye with no paint. I have touch up paint coming and I may just use that before PPF.
I know some have had body shops do spectacular jobs but most of what I’m hearing/reading are nightmarish stories and even more damage or the cars coming out worse than when they went in and if that’s the case I can live with the few imperfections. It’s a gamble like going to Vegas I’m just not sure I can chance. It ‘may’ come out great but then again it may not. It’s a risk for sure.
So when my parts come in and I get the Service call for an appointment I think I’m going to Specify and be darn clear that I don’t want the car sent to any body shop or leaving the lot. I may even wait while the parts are replaced. Take a day at the SC and drive it home when the work is done. I’m even nervous about having these few things fixed without further damage but I’ll take that chance with the SC and the SC alone and then get the heck out of there. I know it’s a skeptical viewpoint but it’s the world we live in.
Otherwise this car is Amazing!!!

Happy to update on this thread that I picked up my car last night at the Rocklin SC after an overnight stay. They used a 3rd party (Dent Wizard) to address the paint issues (correction was to "paint repair/refinish"). The two hazy spots are gone, as well as the nibs on the front bumper by the hood. The shop shimmed the RH tail lamp to align the trunk lid. Some of the panel alignment issues could not be addressed and were remarked as "within tolerances." Whose? I wondered.

My Model 3 now looks like it should have upon delivery!

Yes, the Delivery Specialist provided her contact info as well as the center manager to report any issues. Stressed numerous times to do so within 24 hours of taking delivery. If you are picking up at a SC, take all the time you need to go over the car so you can point out issues and discuss with a tech on-site. So much more efficient than the delays I'm finding now.
Really appreciate your input and sharing here openly.

I also have the gritty paint issue on blue vin#10****. Pick it up in Seattle 3 weeks ago.
Mine is on the upper part of the rear passenger door. Color looks fine. Just has the bumpy feel when running your hand over. Is this a "get it detailed operation?" What is the best way to fix it? Should use calling or emailing Tesla?

I happen to wash the car today (this is my very first wash) and I received the car 12/13/18. I scheduled for an service appt in Jan 17th. Will see how Tesla handles this type of issues. IF anyone taking a delivery of any model 3. Please do it the day light or bring a flash light if at night. I received the car at night so excited and even then these were not easy to find..I was so happy and excited to get the car..

1. There are some circular white hologram? looks like this is under clear coat..cant buff it off in any way..
2. Driver side paint issue
3. Hood and bumper on driver side paint naked
4. Right rear passenger side scratch

Is it only the red?

The declining stock market dictated that I delay any thoughts of a new Tesla for a while, and I requested (and received) my deposit back.
But all of Tesla's QC (lack of QC) issues has made me feel that pulling back was the right decision.

you also have Orange peel. I just noticed this on mine. 10/18 build. look at the 2nd picture where the door handle is. you can see the reflection of your overhead light.

I am starting to think all Red Tesla model 3's have orange peel :( .

Only other issue I had was a small white mark in the paint which the service center buffed out. unfortunately I made the mistake of letting them wash my car before picking it up and now I have swirl marks all over the car. I did not point out the orange peel as I just noticed this a couple days back.

Bad decision. You only hear of the problems here, not the thousands that have no problems. I've had the red for 5 months and haven't found a single paint defect yet. I don't look at it with a magnifying glass. It's a car and it's going to get dings and chips as it ages and you drive it. Were you going to sell stock to buy the car? It's your loss.

I am happy with my car orange peel or not. I got small scratches fixed and happy now. Enjoy the car.

"Bad decision. You only hear of the problems here, not the thousands that have no problems."

I acknowledge that only owners with problems complain, but it was not a "bad decision" when losses in the market would have caused me to over extend myself financially.

I'm still a Tesla believer,
and have confidence that the market will come back in January;
that Tesla will get a handle on QC issues;
and later in 2019 a new M3 will be parked in my garage.

Anticipating that someone will mention that I will loose the $3750 rebate .......
my response will be .... it is not the fed rebate that concerns me, it's the $55k to qualify for the fed rebate.

@Stirfelt sorry you had to forgo your 3 - I agree with others that most people w/o issues don't think to speak up but those torqued off by quality concerns will .. the market loss, well that's real and unfortunate because even with less than 100% stellar quality across the board, the car is quite different from pretty much anything else available anywhere... hoping you get the chance before too long

The QC seems worse on forums than reality. It makes sense to comment on an issue than perfection.
I guess I just have bad luck. I had issues with paint scratches super noticeable. My first time buying a new car that had to be partially repainted. Don’t get me wrong as I love this car just saying. Hard for me to understand why they would even present let alone sell the car. I had been waiting two years like most so I chose to accept the car. I even took a one-way train to Fremont. Never got a call that there were any issues. Just showed up to Fremont and voila.

Purchase a new vehicle is completely up the individual's financial situation. One can say it's a good or bad decision regardless of us stock market.

you probably now this... if you get the car later in 2019 from Jul to December, i think you only get 1,875 so Jan to June to get 3750 rebate.

I do not understand what the last sentence means. "it is not the fed rebate that concerns me, it's the $55k to qualify for the fed rebate?"

I think paint quality is serious issue with M3. C'mon, have you heard of Toyota Camry or Honda Accord paint issues? Their paint quality is top notch and they cost alot less than M3s.

When other car manufactures come out with their own EVs with better executions..Tesla might have some serious competition...they need to fix QC issues right away.

I think he might be indicating that he doesn't have enough taxable income to qualify for the full tax credit.
