Can anyone confirm these new design's that some are reporting? Any additional pics or details for those who have just taken delivery? It does seem that there has been confirmation of new (smaller footprint, deeper) frunk design as of 8/8/2020. There seems to be some speculation on why this has been changed. The new design is more simialar to the Model Y and some think it could be to accomodate a heat pump, if not now, then in the near future. Ref: Tesla redesigns the Model 3 frunk, but why? [Update] - Drive Tesla Canada There also seems to be some reports of redesigned headlights (possible addition of cornering lights) as well as a power trunk lift (redesign struts) but these seem to not have been confirmed by multiple sources as the frunk redesign has. I do remember seeing that as well. These seem to be unconfirmed but the source did include pictures. Of course, I’m wondering if it can substantiated by others which is why I’d like to see if anyone else taking delivery are also seeing these new designs/parts.
Thank you for posting. Putting my tin foil hat on, maybe that post yesterday in which a Sales Advisor reportedly told a buyer the price will soon be increasing is true. (I don’t see how that can happen without the Y also increasing, unless they came out with a completely different trim of the M3).
I would like to see those headlights on, both regular, high beam and DTRL Only. great question. We need pics under the plastic liner.
The new headlights look meh, echoing last decade ICE designs with LED projectors. At least the old headlights gave a false impression of active matrix and their internals flowed much better with the design language of the chassis. Oh well. Frunk and heat pump (if confirmed) are ok, continual improvements. Not earth shattering, even in cold climates. New battery chemistry or solid state designs cant come soon enough. Power trunk is a creature comfort that is slowly becoming standard equipment even on econoboxes so no surprise there (personally zero care or use for it). It is likely another change before v11 axes those aftermarket kits that splice into one or another canbus... 'incompatible vehicle modification detected' a la hack-a-boost.
I suspect the frunk piece is just cost cutting by sharing another (newer, easier to make) part with the Y...see also the center console in the 3 changing to use the same one as the Y. I'd be a lot more surprised if it's hiding a heat pump as that'd require much more significant engineering changes to the 3.
According to some “insiders” on Twitter (back in July) there was a planned plant shutdown the first week of August. The rumor was that they had some redesigns including updating the model 3 to use the same battery packs as the Model Y. This means the model 3 packs would have to use the same cooling/heating lines as the Y and therefore would need the heat pump and octovalve. https://twitter.com/billwri90307793/status/1285017686259331072?s=21
yeah but for a while you could order the $2 part and install it. The new Y-like frunk shell doesn't even have the place to put them.
I’m very curious about this because my MVPA showed a vin starting 783xxx and I ordered the power frunk and trunk struts...and I’d rather return them before it’s too late if I won’t need them...
