Refresh Model S Climate Control Question

Ok, so when I get in my car solo I notice that even though the climate control is on auto only the driver side is engaged. This happens every time I get in the vehicle. In order to get the passenger side to flow, I need to go into the expanded interface, tap once on the passenger air vent, and then air will flow out of that side.

Is this by design? If so, having to conduct these extra steps is simply ridiculous. I haven't tried to see what happens when a passenger is in the front seat to see if the car detects that a body is seated and if the car will then automatically engage the air flow.

I have the controls on Split. Now most of the time when I get in, both sides are blowing regardless of having a passenger. Do not understand why sometimes the pass side turna off.

If you don’t like this, turn the “up” direction vent on. With that on it will keep the passenger side alive even with no passenger in the seat.

It was keeping the car warmer than it needed to be. Cabin needs to cool regardless of its one passenger or two. Thank you for the “up” tip that will be helpful I’m sure

You have different directions for the vents. Just push the one that points up (windshield). That way, you won’t have to have somebody in the passenger seat for the passenger-facing vent to turn on.

I never even though that the sensor would be in the seatbelt. Nice find, going to order now!!!

Didn’t want to make a new thread but have a question on what exactly happened with my climate control today. I voice navi’d an address with the word “burning” in it and noticed like a few mins later that the heat was on max and my seat was heated on max. I thought it was just like the windshield defogger on auto or something until I was like wtf. Is this some Easter egg voice command? Lol. Thx!

Yeah, I recommended that in a YouTube owners video last month when he kept complaining about the AC. Works better IMHO than the upper vent solution, in terms of normal airflow.

FYI as of the latest software updates the passenger side comes on even without a passenger in the seat. So that’s nice.

My Model S Plaid has latest software 2021.36.8, and on Auto, the passenger side always turns off? Please say what your settings are to get it to stay on?
