As we are getting into winter time and more Refresh Model S being delivered to the owner, you will realize the winter tire selection could very limited + lots of headache when searching for them. Which can be true because there's no exact matching tire to match the OEM setup. Most of the time, Online tire websites won't show you the mismatch tire selection when you put in front and rear size.

It took me a lovely afternoon to gather all the possible options for the winter in variable sizes and prices. I hope this info will help the owner to decide which fits the best for their need.

No need to shop around, the link take you to exact retailer for ordering.

Feel free to leave your feedback on the specific tire if you had them on your car before (Preferred been use on high hoursepower applicaiton)

Thank you for this post and info. I recently started looking at Tire Rack, wanting to keep my OEM 21" Arachnid wheels with a set of snows... Are you saying that, if wanting to use the OEM 21" Arachnid wheels, the only option (per Tire Rack) for same tire manufacturer and model front and rear is the Sottozero 3, and that it can be offset front 265/35 and rear 275/35, or all four wheels 275/35? Thank you ahead of time for your reply!

Yes, either setup will work. 275/35/21 all around will be more ideal. But keep in mind that the rear 21x10.5 with 275 will result in slight tire stretch. (Sidewall will not provide any protection against curb)

Thank you for the reply. (1) Can you clarify what tire stretch is (conceptually and the physics / science impact vs a non-stretched tire)... my biggest focus is not compromising on safety. (2) would 285/30/21 in rears still result in tire stretch? Thank you.

1. There's many way to define "stretch" . The rule of thumb is anything wider than Measured Rim Width for the tire is call stretch. However, minor stretch will not effect the performance or safty. For example, 275 on a 10.5" wide wheel, it's the same setup as OEM Model Y Performance rear wheel.

One thing to keep in mind is that the sidewall will no longer will provide protection against curb. When you hit the curb, the wheel will gets hit the same time with the sidewall of the tire.

285/30/21 on 10.5 = square, but it also depends on different brand of tire. Some 285 run wider and some run narrower.

Jamie, thank you for the reply. With me knowing absolutely nothing about tire stretching and having zero mechanical prowess, are you saying that the Model Y Performance rear-wheel / tire is an OEM stretch setup? I poked around online to learn more about stretching; it seems stretching is a (slightly) controversial topic in terms of safety due to a suboptimal seal, more compression, blowouts, traction issues, etc. I am talking above my pay-grade here. But it does seem pretty much everyone agrees stretching looks aesthetically very cool!

Technically OEM Y sidewall is square, but I still give them a "stretch" rating since there's pretty much no protection on tire whatsoever when you hit the curb.

I draw that line so owner can cleary sepratly the difference.

It will only get dangeours when you are going with extreme like below:

I'm replacing my 2015 Model S with the new refresh Model S LR.
Can I use my 19" winter tire and wheel set on the new refresh Model S LR (ordered with 19" wheels)?

We havn't comfirm if the pre-refresh 19" has enough barrel clearance for the refresh Model S's bigger caliper.

However, even if it clears, you will still need to run spacer or otherwise the wheel will sit very tuck in to the fender.

Very informative thread. I have 21 S LR, trying to buy winter tires. Already picked up the BLE TPMS sensors from Tesla. Was told by many tire shops that 245/45/19 all round fits, but after searching on the forums it appears this doesnt work as the 21 has a much wider rear end and it will look tucked in too much.

Based on this thread, it says 275/40/19 front or rear. Does that mean i can run 275/40/19 all round? Does that make the front wheels stick out past the fender?

Or even better, 255/40/20 all round?

Is the stretch on the 275/35/21 option for the OEM 21" rims as aggressive as in these pictures?

@SignatureSales

You've got some beautiful rims for the Tesla. Do you sell rims and tire packages? If so, do you sell any with winter tires?
Thanks! We only sell wheels, but can also offer tire and TPMS but will be ship seprealty.

It won't be that aggressvie. Model Y Performance wheel are 21x10.5 wiht 275/35/21. You can expect the same sidewall look like below.

Refresh Model S now come with staggered setup. 19x9.5 & 19x10.5 or 21x9.5 & 21x10.5. 245/45/19 will not fit the rear.

If you prefer to run square all around and to have the ability to rotate the tire, you will need a new wheel setup. For the LR Refresh Model S, I recommened getting a set of 19x9 or 20x9.5 Square with 255/45/19 or 265/40/19 all aorund for the LR Refresh Model S.

Thank you. I was looking on the Tsportline, and they have listed the following options. It is interesting that 19" winter combo is so much more expenisve but noticed the offsets are different in the 19"s, vs the 20's. If thats the case i prefer the 20's just to have it square, so is the proper fit the 255/4020 on 20x10's with 40 offset?

This is my 2nd car with staggered (last car was 2009 Lexus IS-F) but it was easy to find square tires with no fit issues.

20x10 is too wide for 255/40. I recommened 20x9 to pair with 255/40/20
