Most likely in the rear it will be a 30 series sidewall tire. 40 and 35 are too tall and those will rub regardless of how much wider they make the fenders. The fronts fenders only seem widened since they have much less clearance than the rears. "old" model S' can fit a 285/30/21 with the correct offset rear tire.

Gosh, where did you read that? (and agree, narrower woulda been nice)

It’s been really hard to find any exact dimensions (other than weight) for the refreshed S, for some reason.

The text on the web site state that the Plaid Plus will have staggered wheels/tires but does not provide specs.

Does anyone know or want to conjecture what those “special tires” for the refreshed Model S plaid plus will be? According to Elon’s comments they will provide more ride comfort and be capable of handling the insane performance characteristics of the car.

My bad. My memory is based on out of date knowledge. That was not the case for some years in which the 21” wheels and tires were square.

Not necessarily. My 2016.5 came with square 21" Turbines.

They stopped that option a few years ago. All current 21's are staggered. I wish they offered square. The staggered are just silly.

Not silly, more rubber = more traction.

... and it looks aggressive which is fun ...

It can look better but not really needed and just creates more complication for me on rotation and buying tires.

    Says you! :p

I love the staggered setup, it’s cool.

But I bet you could find a set for sale cheap that you could cannibalizes to get the squared setup. Lots of folks don’t like the range loss.

This is only true in edge cases. The contact patch, within limits, is normally determined by the car weight and the tire pressure. Wider tires just mean a different shape patch and different handling.
