Agreed! 2014 Honda Pilot had the same. Came with a DVD player and the rear screen came with two wireless headphones to stream audio. Could send DVD audio to just headphones, or entire cabin. Worked well to have music playing in the car yet the kids were busy watching a DVD.
Not to mention that with a disc-based entertainment system you just pop in the disc and hit play. I can do that without taking my eyes off the road, and it works even when you get off the highway into poor cellular service areas. I obviously don't have my Model X yet, but I'm already not looking forward to having to swipe through Netflix menus and what kind of a fit the kids will throw when it freezes because we lost signal!

I hear ya! And I'm not some old man groaning about technology. I'm an early adopter of all sorts of tech, but you can't deny that physical media has its advantages in certain situations, and keeping kids entertained on a road trip is one of those situations. I can pop in a Disney Blu-Ray, and rely on it to auto-play and keep the little ones quiet and happy for 90 minutes.

You can't do the same with Disney+?

You can't do the same with Disney+?
I have to use the rear screen's GUI to turn on something on Disney+ which means getting into the backseat to do so since kids strapped into car seats cannot reach the screen to tap the buttons on the screen. That's a hassle to do when not driving, and impossible to do while driving. Also, streaming only works when you have cellular data connectivity. Great in the city or along major interstates, but try getting 10 miles off the interstate onto a rural state highway and see how long you can keep up a connection strong enough to stream music, let alone video. I'll tell ya from experience, 1 bar of LTE ain't cutting it

Tesla's customer service for delivery is just so unreasonable and arrogant.

I got a text message Friday (07/15) noon saying my model x is scheduled for home delivery on Sunday (07/17) afternoon. Before that, I didn't even have a VIN but just an EDD of 07/26 - 08/19 (I rejected a delivery once on 06/30. At that time they also notified my only two days in advance and I was out of town so couldn't take the delivery, and they declined to reschedule). I replied that I might not be able to make it considering I need to secure an auto loan within such a short time frame not to mention that most banks close on Saturdays, but no one replied. So I rushed to a Tesla store to speak to someone there, and they told me that I had to take the delivery on Sunday because I have rejected once and this is my last chance, otherwise they will permanently cancel my order. I begged them to give me maybe one or two days so I have enough time to get the auto loan approved but they refused. They told me that they always have this 3-day turn over policy and there is no exception. A total bullshit!

This is just so ridiculous. I have waited Tesla for 1 year and 3 months (My order date is on April 2021), but Tesla cannot wait me for even one day? What if I won't be around on Sunday, are they really going to cancel my order? So shameless. Even though I am paying in full, if I had to sell stocks, I don't see how it is possible to get the trade settled and money transferred to a checking account before Sunday. It feels like they are trying to either force me to use Tesla finance (The rate is 4.xx%) or cancel my order.

It was 1pm when I left the Tesla store. I didn't have time to shop around so I rushed to my city's credit union and luckily they are so efficient and secured my loan before they close. They told me they will mail the check to Tesla overnight, but considering it is weekend, I am not sure if Tesla will receive the check before Sunday's delivery time. Finger-crossed.

FYI, my VIN number is 3542XX, so it should be built very recently. If I successfully got my model x tomorrow, I will post any new findings in a later post.

If Tesla eventually cancelled my order after all these hassles, just because they didn't get the check before tomorrow, I will sue them for sure!
Did you get the MX deliver?

The lack of ability to drive the rear screen from the front is a real issue, but completely orthogonal to the form of media delivery.

Whoever designed the rear entertainment system to not be remotely controllable from the front screen obviously doesn't have kids! My kid is strapped into a car seat, he can't reach the screen to enable various entertainment options. This feels like a glaring oversight and I can't believe that it hasn't been addressed yet. Also, they need an option for bluetooth headphones for rear entertainment. My 2017 Yukon has a factory Blu Ray player and headphones so the kids can watch their movie in the back while I listen to my own music. If GM figured it out five years ago it's a little odd that Tesla can't
Totally agree - I was super excited when they initially revealed the refresh MX and saw they added a rear infotainment screen, but the execution has been a huge disappointment (audio from rear screen gets played through whole car audio, no option to control it from the front, etc.). These are shocking omissions considering it was primarily implemented (I assume) with kids in mind. That said, these all seem like things they could potentially fix via OTA updates.

A bluray player is not as fool proof as you think! Ask the people who bought a 2022 Chrysler Pacific with bluray player, thinking they could do exactly what you are saying. Guess what? IT DOESN'T WORK! That's right, there are screens in the back, and bluray player in the front, except, when you cannot choose the bluray as a source for the screens in the back. BTW, my 2 year old would NOT be happy watching the same thing over and over, lol. He's unfortunately inherited my attention span and can't stand to watch anything for more than 3 minutes, lol.

I understand that these are two different problems, but my point is that the implementation in my Yukon is effective even though it relies on inferior technology (physical media). By contrast I'm left with a useless rear screen in the Model X.

Shingles raises a good point though, the Blu-Ray player itself does not always solve the problem. Clearly somebody at Chrysler is making the same bone-headed mistakes as Tesla. GM did it right, and it's one of the few things I can applaud GM for.

I wish I could get a streaming player for Disney+ in the backseat of the Model X that would allow me to control it from the front, and would allow me to download movies/shows to local storage so that I can use it offline (in bad cellular areas), and would allow my kids to use bluetooth headphones for the audio. But wish for Tesla to do that in one hand and 💩 in the other hand and see which one fills up first 😂

You and me both, my friend. I was finally allowing myself to be hopeful because we were in mid-July and the lower bound of my EDD had been 7/30 for a while. Then the dreaded dramatic push out again. Hoping it reverts back and to an even narrower range this week. I just don’t see my order actually getting pushed out again when others from the same time period are now taking delivery.
Just got the “hold” this afternoon and had my husband log in and take care of it. Hoping this might be a good sign. We also had a call a couple weeks ago asking if we had a trade in. We currently have only one car (lease went back last month). Doing OK for the summer with bikes and motorcycles, but its going to get old.
