So a few weeks ago I got a EDD range (rather than a month) of 2/20 - 3/13.

Today (2/20), I now have a VIN, but EDD has changed to a narrower date of 3/9 - 3/13.

My EDD has changed so far from
January ->
February ->
March ->
Feb 20 - Mar 13 ->
Mar 9 - Mar 13 + VIN assigned

Model X Plaid 6-seater (changed from 5-seater)
Good news. Congrats.

Yall know how on the old X's you could walk up with the fob and the door would open, Since the phone was also added as a key on the new X's can you now just walk up with your phone (without the fob) and the door will auto open?
I think I read you have to wave your phone next to the door handle and people questioning what the point is because you can just press the button at that point. It sounded disappointing and I figured I’d still have to use fob but not sure if they’ve updated and improved it to auto detect where phone is and open.

Edit: if correct this is for auto open and not auto unlock

I have been holding back for some days not to post here the nonsense I have read about rejecting a 2021 VIN.
Somehow these assumptions are coming from people that have no idea about car production.
A vehicle gets a VIN assigned the moment is it listed to start production, not after it is build so the theory it got the VIN and set to heat up in the sun for months goes Poof.
I had the pleasure of speaking with someone at Tesla about finalizing my documents and we both were very candid about my 2021 car. He told me clearly that back in nov 2021 when i was assigned a VIN and it went Poof is because production VIN were assigned but some parts were not available to complete the car. Since that list of cars were not able to be build yet( will not start till 2022 but only a handful did), the VINs were taken away till the production was schedule to start. This production of a 2021 vins were already recorded and officially assigned but not able to build.
I asked when did my car began actual production, he said in the beginning of 2022. My car was build same time as others 2022.As of yesterday, my new crispy fresh 2021 XLR was completed and on its final inspection for transport.
I also talked about the cases of damage cars that were been delivered. He explain that car leaves without any external damage from the factory but unfortunately cars do suffer damage during transportation. This I know very well since I do work in the auto industry and have witness cars damage during transport and the company that did the transport normally pays for the damages.
In two weeks I will be taking delivery of a fresh 2021XLR with as much joy as if it was a 2022. Actually it is a 2022 in heart just had a birth certificate for sometime. :)
and BTW, the value of a build Q4 2021 is about the same as Q1 2022. What dictates value is miles, condition, any accidents/damage and wear/tear. so anyone that rejected a 2021 passed on a great car.
Exit stage left...............
I have to disagree with this as well. Here's why...

I currently drive a 2019 F150 King Ranch, which I bought in November of 2019 just after the 2020s came out because the only difference between the 2019 and 2020 models was the price tag. Everything else was identical. My truck was built in September of 2019, just two months before I took delivery of it and it had a whopping 18 miles on it when I drove it off the lot.

Should my Tesla ever come, I will be trading in or selling my truck. I just ran the numbers on my truck and an identical hypothetical truck where the only difference is the year model being 2020. The price difference came to $5,076 less for my 2019 truck. The 2020 VINs for Ford came out in November, so two months made the difference of $5,000.

Right now the price difference between a Q4 2021 and a Q1 2022 MX might be the same, however, in a few years when the majority of us come to trade it in or sell our MXs, that will most likely not be the case. So if the price I am about to pay for a new MX is the same no matter if it's 2021 vs 2022, I personally will hold out for a 2022.

On a side note, everyone says the conversion from 2021 to 2022 VINs for Telsa took place in November. I have no idea if that's true or not, but you can see for yourself on the manufacturer's sticker should be in your door jam.
