Regen Braking Limited at 70% after going down a steep hill

Hi All,

I noticed the other day, going down a very steep hill for about a mile, I got a message on the screen saying my regen was limited. It was a balmy 77 degrees out, and I was only at 70% charge.

Any ideas why this might happen? I was hoping to gain back some charge after going up this hill earlier.

Was it below 50f that morning? Battery pack is heavy and the air warms faster than the pack.

The BMS placed a limit on the brake regen due to the heat being generated.

I had similar issues while on the Blue Ridge Parkway in September. I think the BMS its capping the regen knowing upcoming grade and current wh/mil.

ok, so too much regen can also be a thing I guess?

yeah, along with ambient temp, and SoC. BMS is way smarter at accounting all for the factors than we can try to understand.

I live in the mountains W of Denver. I frequently get the warning 'regenerative braking temporarily reduced' when driving down the mountain. Does not seem to be related to temperature, or at least not exclusively. It may occur more often in very cold temps, but I'm not certain that this is the case. I need to test more....
