I just received an E-Mail with a VIN for my Model Y. However, it indicated that the registration package would be sent until 7-10 business days AFTER I take delivery. When I first ordered by my MY I was told delivery would be in Massachusetts. I live in Maine. How am I supposed to take delivery if I can't registered it until after delivery? I'm new to Tesla, so is this typical?

In Arizona I can go online and get a temp tag.

Took deliver of my white LRAWD Model Y on Tuesday, 6/23/20, in Maine. Unfortunately, since the car was delivered out of Massachusetts, it came without temporary plates. And Maine does not issue temporary plates except those issued by car dealers in Maine. So, I have a $50,000+ car sitting in my garage that I won't be able to drive until I can get it registered and I won't be able to register it until I get the registration paperwork from Tesla (in particular, the Certificate of Origin) in 7-10 business days. Sounds like Tesla waits to send out the paperwork because buyers can return the car if they are not happy with it within 7 days. Of course, if you can't drive it, you can't be dissatisfied! For a high tech company it should be embarrassing to Tesla that they can't deliver their very expensive cars in a user friendly manner. Call me Frustrated in Maine!

I'm in CT and we need to take delivery in NY. I got a temp tag. Was transferring plates but was told not to put them on until I got my CT registration in the mail from the CT DMW.
PatinCT, have you actually gotten your CT registration yet? I took delivery in NY on 6/3, and my temp tags expired on 7/3, and I still haven't gotten my CT registration in the mail yet. I called the Mt Kisco delivery center and they said they'd "expedite the issue," which is strange because I would have *thought* Tesla would have already sent everything IN to the CT DMV by now...(sigh)

Still waiting for registration paperwork, two weeks after delivery of the car in Maine. Beyond frustrating. What a ****ed-up company.
Sorry to hear that you're still waiting. They really do need to get their act together in many areas. My car destined for a NJ delivery is somehow stuck in Chicago since 6/26.

Are you calling and e-mailing your delivery specialist daily? I your patience has to be simply gone. I'd be polite but very insistent that they solve this ASAP.

I haven't heard anything from CT DMV yet. My temp tag expires on 7/19 (picked up on 6/19). I've gone to the CT DMV site to try a "reprint registration" but when I get to the point where I could pay to reprint one... still shows my old car (am transferring).

E-Mailing and texting wasn't working, so I got a hold of Tesla by their Chat function last night. The first person switched me to a delivery specialist. That person indicated that the paperwork went out via FedEx late yesterday and should arrive today by 8:00 pm. So, 15 days after delivery. Said they don;t send the paperwork until the check clears. No way it takes two weeks for the check to clear. I hope to get it registered tomorrow, unless it comes in early today, which I doubt.

Where is this Chat function? I don't see it on the website or the iOS app.
Go to the Tesla website (Electric Cars, Solar & Clean Energy | Tesla). Sign in. Go to the very bottom of the page and click on "Contact." Under the "Submit a question or comment" section click "Support." At the bottom of that page click "Contact Us." Make like you are submitting a question. I clicked "Account and Ownership Support" and then "Billing." Then click "Submit." Under "Do You Need More Help" click "Yes." That will give you a window to type in your question and then click "Chat with us." Convoluted and there are probably faster ways to get there, but it worked for me and both times I chatted I got results. Good luck.

Holy cow...thanks for that. It's almost as if they don't want people to find that chat function!

I've been waiting for my registration documents since taking delivery of a Model Y on 6/30. I was surprised when the proper documentation was not included with the delivery to my home address in New Hampshire. The car was shipped from Paramus, NJ. It has been sitting in my garage with 7 miles clocked on the odometer patiently waiting its registration papers and certificate of origination. I’ve contacted my sales agent, delivery agent, and customer support through email and chat several times as BillyDMaine points out. Everyone is quite pleasant to work with but they all admit they must work through the DMV at headquarters (with no customer facing team), to send me the proper documentation. Yesterday, one customer support agent, through the chat room, took ownership of my plight (thank you very much), and I received a FedEx tracking number with an implied promise of overnight delivery, today July 10th. Well it's not quite the end of the day and no papers yet, but when I open the tracking number the package of documents is coming from Paramus, NJ and, sadly, they have yet to initiate delivery. I'm still under 15 days but getting close. I seriously wonder if Tesla lost the paperwork for my car.

Billy, Did you have to go to Mass to take delivery?
I am in NH and was told that Mass only allowed deliveries to Mass residents.
I had two choices, go to Paramus, NJ or they would deliver it to my driveway. Since I was expecting to have to reject the car, I choose to drive to NJ. Plus it was nice to go on a nice drive for a change.
Tomorrow is 14th day since delivery and still waiting for the paperwork.

I thought most of NH was fairly lax with registration requirements, can't you just register with the MVPA?

I'm debating the same options, weren't you concerned that your return period (100 miles) is completely gone from the drive home?

I was only given one choice Paramus NJ and apparently I need to head from midcoast Maine and arrive by 10:00 AM.... Seams like an early start to the day.. I am going to see if I can move the pickup to later in the day.

No, they delivered it to my house in Maine on a car carrier truck. Problem was that MA doesn't issue temporary plates, and so it came with out plates and without the paperwork to register it in Maine. I didn't get the registration paperwork for 15 days. I wasn't told about the NJ option until after I started complaining about having the car sitting in my garage with no place to go. You should be getting the paperwork any day now. How did the pick-up in NJ go? I assume you didn't reject it if you are waiting for paperwork.
