Model S was very reliable. Model X on its path to that. It's supposed to be improving through 2017. My S was a champ reliability- the worst was lubricating the pop out handles. There was nothing needing to be replaced.
Latest builds are supposed to be significantly more reliable. My April build has needed a few things adjusted, 2/3 were minor. One module replacement was relatively more significant, but didn't affect the ability to drive at all while it said module was faulty.
I had an S 70D and an X 100D now. Here and there I had range anxiety with the S- for certain trips. It made all of them but couldn't help but wonder for a few of these. With my X it is absolutely 0. There is no question I have the range. My nav wants to skip every other supercharger (or two!), but I still stop at every one on the way to have those nice driving breaks.
