Was thinking about vampire drain (M3OC has a topic about excessive drain, also reports from Norway).

And I came up with just a software update.

Tesla could add power saving (with connection drop) mode selection in the app (to all models, S, X and 3)
So if vehicle is left alone for long, owner can use the app to put the vehicle in deep sleep* mode remotely (forgot to turn on before leaving). And also wake it up if necessary.

Entering deep sleep mode results in vehicle dropping continuous connection. Refresh only happens once per day (or twice). The only thing that happens is 12V battery conditioning (once per day AFAIK). New data (range, location, temperature) sent to server at refresh.
App features are all "grayed out" into "read only" state, that includes summon, lock/unlock, honk, flash, vent roof, precondition, location, keyless. And the only available feature is "wake up" command. Which is sent to server immediately. Vehicle will accept that command at next refresh.

This should solve excessive vampire drain. And make owners more aware WHY vehicle loses so much range and how to deal with it. It is important to stop vehicle from waking up every time owner uses the app. Latest data should be taken from the server. There is no need to wake the vehicle up.

In addition, if vehicle has not been driven for 3 days and left unplugged, app will send a notification, that vehicle will enter deep sleep mode on its own next day if not cancelled. And on 4th day, vehicle will fall into deep sleep with previously mentioned app functionality. And start sending app user notifications about low state of charge when battery drops below 40% and the date vehicle will not wake up any more (dead 12V battery due to discharged HV battery).
It is important to be as transparent as possible. As of right now, many got a "surprise" right after holidays at airport with dead (or almost dead) battery.

PS: Don't know how Tesla alarm works but BMW will wake up if anyone touches any exterior switches on the vehicle, computers will wake up for 16 minutes (no alarm of course). It might be possible on Tesla as well (friend/valet could wake up vehicle from deep sleep immediately so owner could open the doors and remote start the vehicle).

*deep sleep should be the same thing (or better) as this one:
