Replace faulty door handles

We are at ~76k miles with no warranty. Our Driver's and Passenger side door handles have short in them and I'm thinking about fixing it myself. Anyone got any experience with this? We don't think it's worth ~$2k to replace both handles for a short. I've watched vodeos about how to gain access and how to replace the microswitches. Anyone with experience doing this?
