Replacing screen protector

My screen protector got a chip on the edge on it. I’m wanting to replace it, so I gave it a little pull to see how easy/hard it might come off. As I started to pull, it began to crack (see pic below).

My question:
Is there a best practice to removing a screen protector to minimize risk of damaging the screen it is protecting?

FYI this is the screen protector I have, and am replacing it with the same one:

That should just be damage to the screen protector, not the screen itself. This is unless the initial damage impacted both the protector and the screen. Regardless, the protector is not glued on there so just pull it off. The only thing is I would suggest you start pulling from the parts that aren't cracked to begin with. Good luck.
