Tesla is expanding its presence in California with a new 870,000 sq-ft building under construction in Lathrop, according to a report from Manteca Bulletin.

The site, previously parking for the Pilkington glass plant campus, is just down the street from another Tesla building, which fronts Harlan Road and Interstate 5, and is located in the rear of the former glass plant building that will be the new Northern California distribution facility for Kraft Heinz.

Tesla manufactures in Fremont, in a factory previously used by Toyota and GM. Other  Northern California Tesla facilities are located in Lathrop and Livermore.

“While the exact nature of the building and what it will be used for has not yet been disclosed by the secretive company, the ownership group that acquired the shuttered glass plant on Louise Avenue confirmed that a portion of the property had been sold to developer Buzz Oates for construction of the new building – which is currently underway,” according to the Manteca Bulletin.

Tesla’s Lathrop warehouses have been used as a loading hub for cars being shipped out for delivery. It’s possible that the new facility could be used to support a large distribution center as Tesla’s production numbers continue to grow.
